Wrestling Politics

Linda McMahon and the Rock's appearance at the Republican Convention in the States last week may have been to,  as their broadcasts put it " bring to light the 14 million WWF fans eligible to vote in the next Presidential election", but, I do not see this!

Call me a cynic, but I believe that what Linda (Chairperson of the World Wrestling Federation and wife of "sexual jackhammer" owner Vince)  was there to brian wash their (if you can believe 14 million) voting audience into voting the way that Linda and Vince are going to.  Republican.

With George Bush Junior (a near clone of George Seninor) hoping to walk in his fathers footsteps, you can only imagine suplexes in the Oval office.

Okay American Politics has been a bit of a joke since they elected Jesse "The Body" Ventura as a regional Governor.  Okay he was an ex-Navy Seal but more prominently an ex-WWF wrestler and commentator.

Now if Linda and co are just there for 'their audience' why didn't they sign their talent up to public service broadcasts like Chyna, The Rock and "New York Times Best selling author" Mick Foley, did to promote a reading campaign?

The reason that they did not do this is because ol' Vince McMahon likes the idea of featuring prominently in the election.  This guy is not media shy, and considering that he owns the WWF, and it is not part of a bigger Media magnate (like Ted Turner owned World Championship Wrestling), Vince is the god of the little world that he controls.

Having watched highlights of The Rock at this convention spurting all of his best one liners "If you smell what the Rock is cooking" and so on, I don't really care what they have to say.  I also don't care for politics stuck in the middle of programming for the masses if you smell what I am cooking!

Imagine Tony Blair popping up in Coronation Street or William Hague visiting Walford preaching his manifesto and you get the idea of this stupidity.

Now if Vince wants to turn the WWF into a party political broadcast the rules must dictate that equal time be given to the Democrats on Raw and Smackdown this week. I wait to see.
