OVERVIEW
After finishing Matric at New Forest High School in 1993, I realised I needed to broaden my outlook on life and so decided
to go to Israel and stay on a Kibbutz. By the end of my trip, I had been on 3 different Kibbutz all over Israel from the Gaza Strip
to the more prosperous North, working at a variety of jobs ranging from the dining hall to the only non-kosher meat factory in Israel.
After my time on the Kibbutzim, I moved down to Eilat where I spent a few weeks as a construction worker, saving enough money
to see Egypt, but without ever setting foot in a tourist bus or hotel.
On returning to South Africa, I enrolled at UNISA for a degree in Social Science (BA Soc. Sci.) to become a social worker,
and attended lectures at Damelin College during the day.
The next year (1996) I continued my studies through UNISA, but worked at many part time positions including a yeast factory
and a catering company called Stetsons.
In 1997 I decided to do some more travelling. Taking my savings I headed of to London. Almost immediately I got a job at the
London Borough of Camden in the Home Ownership Section (reference available), as a filing clerk, as time went by I got more
responsibilities, becoming a member of the Right to Buy team (which administered the sale of Council flats).
After a year there I took on the duties of House Purchase Grant officer, giving grants of up to £25,000 to Council tenants to move
out of Council flats into place of their own.
During this time I had plenty of opportunity to go travelling. I saw the Bafana-Bafana play England at Old Trafford and the
Springboks play France in Paris. I saw the Scottish Highlands, visited the picturesque Cotswolds Villages of England and
experienced the friendliness of the Welsh. I also found time to feel the cold of a New York winter, have my eyes opened
in Amsterdam and visit beautiful Stockholm. After all that I decided it was time to settle down and start working on a career.
I consequently went to Crux Cti and studied a Comprehensive Programming Diploma, again working part-time for the catering
company Stetsons again.
I am currently working at Unibase Solutions, working as a programmer. My main duties include the writing of report and
spreadsheet programs from specifications from the users. Updating the older programs as they become redundant or no
longer meet the requirements of the end users. Fault finding, and lately as a couple new customers have been taken on, I have
done a few data conversion programs, converting the new customer's data onto our system.
I am willing to start as a junior programmer learning a new language, although ideally I would like to utilize my skills in
Universe Basic, Visual Basic or those freshly aquired in HTML
