Nov. 21, 1997

Beginning December 1, 1997, Canadian Regional Airlines will add frequency to a number of its key western markets, including Comox, Cranbrook and Portland, OR. An additional flight each business day will be added between Comox and Vancouver, increasing the day flights to five, from four, in each direction. Cranbrook will see an increase from five to six frequencies per day to Vancouver, and an increase to four flights per day, from three, returning to Cranbrook. The most significant news comes in the Vancouver-Portland market, where a fourth rotation has been added each day.

Nov. 20, 1997

America West Airlines announced today an addition of a third daily flight between Phoenix and Vancouver, British Columbia beginning May 13, 1998. The third daily non-stop flight from Phoenix to Vancouver will enable America West to provide morning, afternoon and evening service. Following are the new flights from Phoenix to Vancouver: From To Flight Departs Arrives Effective Phoenix Vancouver 812 8:28 a.m. 11:34 a.m. May 13, 1998 Vancouver Phoenix 810 1:00 p.m. 3:59 p.m. May 13, 1998 The new flight will be served by Airbus A320 aircraft featuring seating for 12 first class and 138 coach class passengers.

Canadian Airlines continues to build on its dominant position in Vancouver this winter by expanding service through the Vancouver hub to key U.S., Canadian and International destinations. As part of its winter schedule, Canadian is launching twice-a-day flights to San Diego, California beginning Dec. 17. The new San Diego service strengthens an already strong schedule to California. Canadian now offers 11 flights a day from Vancouver to San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco. As well, Canadian is adding more daily flights to Los Angeles and San Francisco. From Vancouver, travellers enjoy increased flights to other U.S. destinations such as Boston, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Chicago. Internationally, Canadian and its alliance partners are increasing service to Taipei, Beijing and Nagoya, Japan through the Vancouver hub. Outbound passengers will appreciate the convenience of substantially reduced flying times from many U.S. cities to Asia thanks to Vancouver's proximity to Asia. Inbound passengers can connect through the hub to 36 destinations in North America, Europe and the South Pacific. Canadian is making Honolulu and the South Pacific easier to get to as well. Leisure travellers can now fly 28 times a week between Vancouver and Honolulu effective Dec. 15. And starting Oct. 29, Canadian is launching its own flights to New Zealand. The twice-a-week flights from Toronto will stop in Honolulu, giving visitors from western Canada easy connections to Auckland. Domestically, Canadian Airlines is increasing transcontinental service between the important business centres of Vancouver and Toronto to seven daily flights. Service on the Western Shuttle between Vancouver and Calgary increases to 34 flights a day. Service between Vancouver - Kamloops and Vancouver - Prince George increases to 12 flights a day. Service between Vancouver-Campbell River increases to 3 flights a day and flights between Vancouver - Comox increase to 5 times a day.

July 15, 1997

Alaska Airlines announced today that it will inaugurate service to four new destinations this fall from Vancouver, B.C. On Oct. 5, Alaska will begin nonstop service to San Francisco with two daily flights, and to Las Vegas with one daily flight. A month later on Nov. 5, the carrier will add one daily nonstop flight to Phoenix and one daily direct flight to Palm Springs via San Francisco. It will also increase its existing service to Los Angeles from three to four daily departures. When the new schedule takes effect this fall, the total number of daily departures from Vancouver will increase from four to nine. Currently, Alaska serves Seattle, Los Angeles and San Diego from Vancouver. Alaska Airlines began flying to Vancouver in May 1996 with two flights to San Diego.
