I found a job , then at the last moment they increased the hours by 30 % with no increase in pay..,. I misundertood they said . I knew 100 % I had not so I checked with other foreigners and they said Chilean business technique was very hard indeed....these mistakes , because of language were very common and always worked in favour of the companies i.e. they weren't mistakes at all.
In fact they had no qualms about lying .
Here are some things about doing business I learnt from experience with a certain training company
Chilean Business Techniques : Criminal and unfair : Generally strong arm tactics and using every opportunity and underhand method to gain advantage from things which are unclear or not set out on paper.
Take all you can get now - In other countries people would try to negotiate terms fair to both sides, so the relationship can be long term. They work together the employer doesn`t have to fear the employee is stealing etc
Start At a Very low amount - There is no shame about being seem to be exploitative
Change At The Last Moment - After having negotiated agreement no-one is going to be happy to cancel it, so near to anticipating earning money . So if you can change the terms at the last moment it`s to your advantage. e.g. increase the hours etc
The 2 people Game - One negotiates a price with you, a higher amount than the first offer, but won`t go any higher without checking with the big boss. But then when you meet with the other boss they pretend to only know about the first low amount and act horrified that their subordinate could have agreed to such a high price, no the first amount is the one on offer. Withdraw the offer So you are forced to believe if you can get back to the agreed amount you`ve got a good deal.
Nothing On paper - So they can twist terms to their advantage when it comes to paying.
Vagueness - By paying you monthly . You may think a month is 4 weeks work, but by counting the time from the day you started to the pay day and multiplying this by a 30th of the monthly salary they get to pay less. For example at the end of the project they pay you until the last Friday not the Sunday so you lose 2 days pay.
