| 40. 17/3/00 Uruguay... very safe... very boring ?... Travelling in Uruguay
I spent a week travelling around Uruguay..It was relaxed, safe ..but a little boring. but I saw lots of old gauchos (South American cowboys) wearing their funny baggy trousers
Visited the old town of Colonia, Colonia Suiza (boring), the capital Monte Video (depressed in comparison to Buenos Aires), Carnaval in the small town of Treinta y Tres, A nice nature reserve nearby at Quebrada de las Cuervas (but not exciting compared to other areas like Machu Pitchu), Melo, ... ?, Paysandu, A Hot Springs, Salto , Bella Union.
In the end Uruguay was very like Argentina but they drink even more mate . and itīs quieter and more relaxing...Note every town seemed to have free camping at the local parks ...so it wasnīt too expensive..the youth hostels are more expensive than the hotels.
My guide book said there were mission ruins in San Borja (Brazil) and just over the river in Santo Tome (Argentina) I thought I would be clever and travel this way upto Paraguay. Hi to all the English students in Santo Tome
then 4 countries in 32 hours... through Brasil to Argentina and across to Encarnacion... Paraguay...My head is spinning 2 different language 5 different currencies in my pocket!!!
I first did this page in Posadas (argentina) then the power cut so I lost it so I did again..then the power cut..Then in Encarnacion (Paraguay) I did it again and the power cut and I lost it.... !!!!! The fourth time in Asuncion seems OK
next Asuncion , then back to Brasil ...Iguasu, Curitiba, Florianopolis, Canela (Rio Grande
Del Sur) and then north to Rio DJ.
Then to England unless I find Miss Perfect |
