The Shrine of Remembrance

Pretty impressive. An old soldier shows you round and you get to see a recreation of the shaft of light passing over the memorial stone. The view from the balcony across the city is very good also

CERES - environmental centre

- Lots of "Alternative" information - small, permaculture farm with animals is good for the kids, an energy house set up to show energy efficient techniques, wind/solar electricity park, a green cafe, a indigenous nursery garden centre , aboriginal area , African and Indonesian demonstration villages , a hippy/organic market on Saturdays - The site is a former rubbish tip on a green strip stretching north through the suburbs called Merri Creek, all of course destined to be destroyed by a planned freeway development - I'm serious it's not a joke !

Aboriginal Walk - Botanical Gardens Thursdays at 11am

- Well worth it - I learnt a lot. $15 but our tour went on for 2.5 hours

For a start the aboriginal bloke was white and doesn't actually speak any aboriginal languages.

Where's your digareedoo ? There is no Aboriginal language or religion. There are hundreds of different tribes with widely different languages and customs. What is clear is that they almost always had a much more deep feeling for nature and environment than western cultures.
.....the digareedoo is only played by males from certain Northern Territory tribes

Collinwood Children's Farm

- nice place beside the River Yarra

Borsch Vodka and Tears

- special vodka and gypsey music restaurant in Prahan. Must be good cos Wednesday and Monday music nights always sold out.
Other places the new Melbourne Museum expensive and gimmicky ,but good aboriginal section.

Victoria State Parliament : might be good if you get a good guide. For me the Townhall Tour was more interesting.

Sovereign Hill, Ballarat

Quite impressive Historical Park recreating a gold mining town. There's a lot to see so get the 2 dayticket ,cos it's only $4 more.

Daylsford Hepburn Springs (a hippyish area,
