14. Ballarat's Historical Park

The youth hostel turned out to be part of the Sovereign Hill Historic complex and was quite impressive.

Walked around the town, but didn't see anything amazing.

Tue - I expected to spend only a couple of hours in the recreated mining town, but ended up staying all day and still missed out on a couple of things. I would recommend getting the 2 day ticket ,cos it's only $4 more. I started off doing a couple of guided tours : the tent city showing life of the first miners (alluvial) the goldpanners, then the Chinese mine, temple and secret chamber. I have to say the guide Ian Anderson was very professional. He must do the same story again and again, but managed to be entertaining without being corny.

unphoto : demonstrating how to pan for gold and the real flakes of gold he gave me

Also went on 2 other underground tours and saw the actors performing skits on the recreated High Street, pouring molten gold.

Went onto Bacchus Marsh, but didn't seem an interesting town.
