This is not a complete list you can find 100s more yourself in the guidebooks and by looking out for the small blue and white inverted V signs in front of houses, but these are the places I have been to and can speak for. I stayed at 20 in total, but these are the best. They always have aircon, ensuite bathroom with hot water, chilled drinking water, TV etc and will provide extra services like food etc for a reasonable charge
remember prices are always negotiable for longer stays etc these people will all give you addresses for other people in other towns
La Havana
| Maria Dias Castro English ? ask for Lino (the son) postal address :Calle 27 No 109 , El Vedado , La Habana, Cuba Tel :832 9731 email :linohd@yahoo.com location :2nd floor between streets M and N one block south of the easy to find Havana Libre Hotel comments : Has access to a whole network of rooms with neighbours etc with different rooms from $15 single and $25 double cos the neighbourhood is right next to the Main Tourist hotel itīs a good area never has power cuts, safer cos plenty of Police guarding streets and more upmarket neighbourhood and convenient for bus connections etc, cheap internet access also There is a cheap vegetarian restaurant (for pesos) nearby

Gilbara - a nice quiet seaside town in the east

Santa Clara
| I stayed in a place on Vitudes St, though I wouldnīt recommend it cos they woke me up at 6 am to ask if I would move room, as a tourist and a prostitute would pay more money for my room !
Matanzas - for me a lot of hasslers and not the most interesting town, but itīs near to Varadero and itīs airport, the campismos charge $5 though they are reportedly not good or well located

Trinidad - for me a lot of hasslers but cobbled street historic town

Sierra De Maestra - Santa Domingo - the access village at the North side of the National Park
| Berghard English ? a little location :Ask at the National Park Entrance, the house is over the other side of the river,backing on to the sugar refining place comments : good hospitality.
Guira de Melena - Havana Province nowhere town
