Unlike most WWOOFing places in Costa Rica it's free if you work 4 hours a day. If you don't work you pay a few dollars to camp and eat.
There are some interesting walks nearby. And an Indigenous man who works there can also guide you on the Indigenous reserve a couple of hours away.
You need to ford the river to enter.
And don't forget to bring your treats as the nearest shop is a 2.5 hour walk away.

Finca Ipe is located in the coastal mountains on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. We're off the main highway linking the bustling market town of San Isidro del General to the famous surfing spot of Playa Dominical, just below the mountain village of Platanillo. You can reach the farm by bus, taxi or you could even try hitching. If you're coming from San José, take a bus from the new Musoc terminal or Coca Cola bus station to San Isidro del General (Perez Zelédon) - it takes about 3 ˝ hours (around $4-$5). From there, make your way to Transportes Blancas, the bus station for Dominical and Uvita. Here you can take a 40-50 minute bus ride (direction: Dominical). Just ask the bus driver to stop at Finca Ipe.

Our intention is to turn this 155 acre area of land
into a successful organic farm through the
implementation of permaculture, agroforestry, organic
and biodynamic agricultural techniques and principles.
It will serve as a model farm amongst many cattle
ranches ( as this once was) in order to demonstrate
how other growing techniques can flourish and be
potentially profitable. We require volunteers to come

temperate valley that we live in. No experience is

The early morning hours are generally the most pleasant as it often times gets warm or rains in the afternoon.

Our volunteer rate is $10 a day. This includes meals and lodging.
Bus from the Central Pacific Coast
First you must get to Quepos. From Quepos, take one of two buses each day that go to San José via Puriscal (ask about buses to Puriscal). These buses leave from the Quepos bus station at 4:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. (check with the bus station for possible changes in times). There are other buses that go from Quepos to San José, but not via Puriscal, so you will have to be sure that you are on a bus that goes via Puriscal. From Quepos, the bus heads west and passes through the town of Parrita, and then turns north headed for Puriscal. After about 1 hour 15 minutes from this turnoff, you will come to the small town of Guarumal. There is a restaurant there named La Union. The afternoon bus stops there for a 10-minute break, though the morning bus generally passes by without stopping. If you are on the morning bus, you will have to ask the bus driver to stop. If you make and confirm arrangements with us ahead of time, we can pick you up there and bring you to the Ranch (about 7 kms.) The morning bus out of Quepos arrives to La Union around 6:30 a.m., and the afternoon bus around 3:15 p.m.
Alternately, you can get off at El Cruce, which is about 1 kilometer past the La Union Restaurant. This is simply a bus stop at the junction of a road that leads to Mastatal. There is a sign at this junction announcing the Parque Nacional La Cangreja. The bus continues straight towards Puriscal. You have to get off at El Cruce and walk, hitchhike, (or we could pick you up with advance notice) from El Cruce to Mastatal, about 6 kms. Traffic is sparse. Our house is on the left as you enter into the town of Mastatal.

Selva Bananito Lodge on the Atlantic slope of Costa Rica often seeks volunteers and interns to help with all aspects of operating the lodge, from leading horseback and rain forest excursions to cleaning cabins, cooking, and doing clerical office work. We give preference to individuals who have previously lived in Latin America. You will find a sample contract at the bottom of this page. Volunteers pay for the round-trip ticket between their country of origin and Costa Rica, and a participation fee of $300 a month.
