Vengeance by George Jonas-
After 11 Israelis were killed by Palestinians the Israeli intelligence amazingly stupidly comes up with a vengeance plan to set up a team to assassinate people connected with the terrorists. Of course though largely successful there are botchups. (the book doesn't mention the innocent Norweigen waiter killed in another incident.) Then members of the team start to get assassinated. So then they have to kill the assassin. Finally it seems Israeli intelligence threaten the resigned team members daughter.
(There were 3 remaining targets, maybe killed later)
What did they achieve ? They put 9 terrorists out of action. Killed civilians, KGB, Palestinian guards, lost 2 israeli agents and an assassin. Made things more difficult for future terrorists ? Made Israel safer ? Caused more future terrorists. Probably made Iraelis seem bad.
Unquantifiable.. Still holding out an olive branch to peace would have been more productive.
They perpetuated the cycle of violence instead of working towards peace.
What's the endgame ?How can you ever be reconciled with your enemies unless you you do "the Christian thing" and forgive instead of doing one bad thing cos someone did something bad to you.
Violence breeds violence ..live by the sword die by the sword etc

Saturday - Went on a MNS guided walk around Damansara Forest Rserve that they are trying to conserve.I was disappointed. It's not so impressive, just a walk in the woods, but worth preserving". ( I only just made the 8.45 start after an almost 2 hour bus journey.)
The forest story is in Todays Star metro Central
Terrible photo ..she looks as if she's telling me off or something in fact thwe woman in the middle is the guide.

Actually i was quite disappointed by that walk, but yesterday I saw something we could copy. I went to Kent Ridge canopy walk and then Bukit Timah Hill.
At Kent ridge the road goes to the top of the hill then the path begins. What they have done is built the path out from the top of the hill using piling on the slope so you are actually walking through the top of the trees.
So 1. you have a great view. 2. you see the canopy 3. you are not disturbing the forest floor which is the normal problem with forest paths.
That would be a great thing at Damasara (if you know someone who can do piling !). Their path is 2m wide, but 50cm would be enough.
