The closing of our school came as such a shock to us all. It all happened on January the 16th 2002, when we heard the voice of our Principal Sr. Jeanne Marie. She came over the PA system she told us to meet in the gym for a school meeting. We all entered the gym, spirits high, having just coming back from our Christmas vacation. When an man by the name of Dale Hoyt entered the room, Sr Jeanne Marie stepped up to the podium took a deep breath and proceeded to tell us our school would be closing at the end of the year. Although to some students who had been at the PTC meeting the night before, this did not come as such a shock. Still they joined the rest of the student body in shock, some just stared on as though they were in a daze others began to cry. Mr. Hoyt assured us that we will be able to graduate from the following school under St. Francis still. Mr. Hoyt also told us that we will be able to attend any school we choose to which we will list as follows: St. Gerard's High School, Providence High School, Incarnate Word High School, and Antonian High School. These high schools have agreed to help the students with the tuition and other neccesities that will be need through out the course of the next year.
There was a survey that has been taken place this past month to
determine which schools the girls will be attending the following school year.
St.Gerard's - 17 girls
Providence - 29 girls
Antonian - 3 girls
I.W.H.S - 3 girls
Undecided - 17 girls
There were also many of the
girls that choose to attend public schools.
It has been a pleasure to attend SFA. We ask for your prayers for the faculty and our students.
Vaya Con Dios
