Science Department Report

Space exploration continues on Mars and Saturn.
On Earth the volcano Mount St. Helens is still showing seismic
activity. A mojor eruption is still expected at some time.
On November 11th Europe's SMART 1 Orbits the Moon. On November 15th
SMART 1 came within 5,000 kilometers of the lunar surface in
essentially the most loosely bound lunar orbit ever achieved. SMART
1 has an ion-propelled engine.
NASA's Swift high-energy observatory was launched on November 20.
Once operational, Swift will rapidly pinpoint enigmatic gamma-ray
bursts (GRBs)
and then scrutinize their afterglows using X-ray and
ultraviolet/visible-light detectors. Swift will also perform a
sensitive all-sky survey in hard (high-energy) X-rays.

OPs continues to maintain the web page and has updated
all the departmental changes with the change of
command.
I'm looking forward to participating in this years
Toys for Tot's challenge and I hope that the rest of
the crew will make as many donations as they have in
previous years.
I've also gotten the last box of my stuff out of the
CO's office and I found my pictures from my last visit
to Risa. I'll have to thank our former medical officer
Wendy Urvand for recommending zero G jello shots, but
next time I'll be sure to stay away from the green
one's ;-)

Posted healthy eating tips for Thanksgiving.
Working on a Marine Medical course.
Plan to work with Transporter chief on ways of
sobering up the crew by running them through the
Transporter but leaving the alcohol molecues behind.

XO/Charity/Transporter Chief Department Report
November 2004
XO Report:
This has been a busy month for transitions to our new assignments on board St. George. I assumed my XO duties in addition to Charity and Transporter Chief after the Valley Con in late October. Accomplishments for November include:
Consolidation of XO files as maintained by CDR Tom Schulte. (quite interesting reading)
Monitored mail list as directed. Two new public message board members.
Welcomed Kerry Scott as our future Charity Officer/Web assistant.

Charity Report:
Members are gearing up for Toys for Tots this year and fleet-wide members were invited to report their totals to Crewman Kerry Scott. Personal contributions were:
LCDR John Schulte - Gave blood November 4th, continued as Boy Scout Troop Treasurer for about 4 hours this month, and clipped $558.03 in food coupons and $1,730.03 in non food coupons for a total of $2,288.06 coupons.
Total Coupons submissions from Jan 04 to Nov 04 are $39,132.21
Transporter Chief:
Not much to report as transporter chief, staff were received back from Valley Con in fairly good shape, although, I think their Ale content was a bit elevated when they returned!
