December 2003 Report

My orders arrived and I was sent to Planet Christmas
in the Delta Quadrant for the entire month of December.

Once there the hell began. I was given a huge list of friends and
relatives all requiring gifts. Quark's sale flyers were thrust
upon me. Promenade hours of operation were posted. The time was
short but my list was long. I laid down so many credits and bars of
latinum it would take me two Earth months at the Tellarite Race Track
to again be solvent. I wrapped presents in Andorian tissue paper till
my arms ached. Then I discovered that everyone on my list lived off-
world. I would have to obtain shipping crates, pack them, and haul
them to the transporter pads. Again, more latinum. Just when I was
ready to breathe a sigh of relief the baking orders arrived. Dozens
of cookies and cakes and pies, oh my, had to be baked and perfectly
decorated. My father once again demand his rum-soaked fruitcake.
Why, oh why, would no one accept replicated baked goods? And then
the parties began. Hours and hours of drinking and eating and
chatting and gloating. Would it never end?

At last, new orders arrived. I was being transferred back to the
ship. I was back onboard only
an hour when I received Captain Stratton's dreaded email. The
subject line read, "[stg_command_staff] MSR/Deparment Report
Reminder". Oh lord, so that's how the old ahn woon would
fall! What would go into my report? I had done nothing scientific
all month! Certainly I could scrape together something so no one
would notice. Oh look! I did do something after all. My position is
secure!

Scientific Thing #1: Posted "Holiday Dieting Tips" to list.

Scientific Thing #2: Posted "Twas The Day AFTER Christmas"
to list.

Monitored the lists but didn't respond to any and all cries for
scientific help.

Respectfully submitted,

Jay
