As part of our In country training we had the chance to visit a serving volunteer in their placement. A group of us headed off to see Kirsy who teaches in Adi Gaul, a small village 15Km from Mendefera. I cycled down with Susie (thanks for the loan of the bike Dirk). The journey back made more interesting by double punctures and hitching a lift in a passing mule cart, with a mule called Beckham. He was possible the slowest mule in Eritrea and ground to a halt when faced with a stiff oncoming breeze, it would probably have been quicker to unhitch Beckham, put him on the cart and pull it ourselves.
