Naturally, nobody wants to celebrate Doomsday. Not even fool!
APRIL FOOL'S DAY is the first of April, also known as All Fools' Day. On this day
practical jokes are played, such as sending a friend on a fool's errand or duping him into doing
or believing something absurd.
Although the practices of the day are of obscure origin, they are thought to have arisen with the
celebrations of the vernal (spring) of playing someone for a fool on this day was begun in France
in 1564 with the adoption of the reformed calendar. A person who resisted changing New Year's Day
from April 1 to January 1 was victimized by pranksters on April 1 and became known as pission
d'avril (April fish).
Widespread observance of the day began in England in the 18th centruy. In Scotland, the custom
of making April fools is kown as the hunting the gowk (cuckoo). In Mexico, All Fools'
Day is celebrated on December 28.

Frankly, this quiz is designed to "April fool" you. The statements that follow seem simple to answer, but watch your step and look out for cracks in the sidewalk. But let's see now, TRUE or FALSE?

Sorry if you've been April fooled, but not a single one of these statements is correct. Each is
a FALSE because:
- The earth is millions of miles closer to the sun in December than in July. Summer or winter is determined by which hemisphere is leaning toward the sun, and which away from it.
- The funny bone is not a bone at all. It's the ulnar nerve.
- Camels have straight backbones; their humps are formed of fat.
- Both words mean the same thing, i.e. drunk.
- Indian ink never came from India, but from Japan and China.
- There is no silver in German silver; only copper, nickel and zinc
- The Immaculate Conception was that of Mary in her mother, Saint Ann.
- The most southerly state is Hawaii.
- Jerusalem artichokes are American sunflowers.
- The square foot of a fraction is larger. For instance, the square foot of one-ninth is one-third.
- When it's 40 degrees, the reading will be exactly the same on both Centigrade or Fahrenheit thermometers.
- Since water will make wheat swell so that the grains will be larger and it will take fewer of them to fill a quart, the wet wheat will weigh less.
- Goldfish will lose all colour and turn white if keep in a darkened room.
- If the plant doubles in height daily, it will reach the top of the fence on the eight day.
- Tyre poundage measures pressure, not weight. The air in a tyre inflated to 30 pounds may weigh just a few ounces.
