When darkness filled the silent sky
and everyone gathered round
They saw the One upon the Cross
with His head hanging down ~
He cried "Father, please forgive them,
for they know not what they do",
And He gave up His life with one last breath
this man, King of the Jews.
As a heaviness flooded all around
and silence filled the air
Broken by the cries of grief
of His followers everywhere ~
Persecuted for the wrongs
of a world who couldn't see
That He was wounded for our sins
and bruised for our inquities.
With a spear they pierced His side
and blood and water flowed
Confirming that He was truly dead
for those who didn't know ~
Saddened by a disbelief
as tears fell from their eyes
They cried for love of this man
who was innocently crucified.
He was taken down from the Cross
in an atomsphere of gloom,
And wrapped in cloths of pure white
they laid Him in a tomb ~
Then across the doorway
a heavy stone was placed
And soldiers stood guard day and night,
watching, just in case.
Then the days passed into the third
a bright and sunny day
Three women came to check the tomb
and the stone was rolled away ~
They hurried to into their Saviour's grave
but they could only stop and stare,
As before them lay the discarded cloths
for His body wasn't there.
But an angel of the Lord appeared
and said "Do not be afraid,
You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene
but He has risen today ~
Go and tell His disciples
for He has gone to Galilee,
For just as He told you He has come
He has risen, you will see!"
Glory, glory, hallelujah,
Jesus is alive!
He paid the price for sin and death
when He was crucified ~
He took away the burdens
to bring peace to all mankind
He bled for the sins and suffering
of a world that had gone blind.
Praise be to God for His gift
the precious blood of Christ,
Saved through the grace of His Son
the One who was crucified ~
Glory, glory to His name
He is risen and He is Lord,
Jesus Christ died for you and me
and He's alive forevermore!

"I have written a number of Easter poems this year, mainly about the sacrifice Jesus made for us and His everlasting love. But I hadn't written one about His resurrection....Jesus is alive, and that is awesome! Though He died for all our sins and pain on the Cross, He rose again on the third day (that being the beginning of the week). And His promise to us was that He would always be with even to the end of the age. The beauty and impact of such a thing is so wonderful and amazing! He died for us, and He rose again! We can only give praise to Him and glorify His wonderful name for this sacrifice, for this blessing for us. Glory, glory, hallelujah! The precious blood of Christ is ours, shed for us that we may truly see His love and awesome wonder....and Life Eternally. Praise be to Him! He has risen, and He's alive!"
