On a hill far away,
somewhere called Calvary
A promise made to the world
for life Eternally ~
An honest man, a carpenter,
innocent of blame
Bore the sins of every man;
Jesus was his name.

He was the one they called "Teacher"
a simple Nazarene,
Born unto a selfish world
refusing to believe ~
Teaching basic principles
he spoke of God's commands
And instilled in them a greater love
they learnt to understand.

Healing the sick and wounded
he made the blind to see,
He found the souls who had been lost
and set the captives free ~
A comforter to the millions
on whom they could depend,
He gave them wise instruction,
He was the people's friend.

But by the age of 33
he knew the time had come
His life on earth would soon end
though Eternity had begun ~
And so on one final night alone
in Gethsemene
He prayed for God's will to be done
to set these sinners free.

Into the hands of Judas
and priests of the law
Taken to the Sanhedrin,
the council he stood before ~
Innocent of any crime
accused of blasphemy,
They mocked his name and ridiculed
to set himself free!

Then in the presence of Pontius Pilate
the crowd chanted and cheered
For the release of Barrabas,
a man they should surely fear ~
And in his place it was Jesus
they wanted crucified,
"Kill him!" they shouted, "Kill this man!
We want this man to die!"

Pilate asked them "What has he done?
This man's committed no crime"
But they just cried out to crucify him,
and he could only ask them "Why?"
When he saw he had no control
he said "It's nothing to do with me,
I wash my hands of this man,
he's your responsibility!"

So the soldiers stripped him
and spit upon his face
A crown of thorns in mockery
upon his head was placed ~
Then they gambled for his clothes
and beat and tortured him
Saying "Is this man King of the Jews?"
they laughed and sneered at him.

But Jesus remained silent
for it had been prophesied
That he would suffer at the hands of man
and for their sins he'd die ~
He knew that it was written,
that it was His Father's plan
As he carried the Cross up to the place
where God's promise began.

He took the sins of the world
as they nailed his hands and feet
And sensed the sorrow and the pain
feeling his heart weep ~
"Father" he cried "Forgive them,
for they know not what they do!"
And with one last breath he gave up his life,
Jesus, King of the Jews.

On a hill far away,
a place called Calvary,
Jesus died for our sins
so we'd know eternally;
The gift of life abundant
that God gave to everyone
The promise of His love for us,
the gift of His only Son.

Jesus died that we may have
the gift of Eternal Life,
So that we may know His love
and never have to die ~
We only need to come to Him
and give to Him each day,
Leaving those worries at the Cross
on that hill far away.

"Easter is a wonderful time of celebration of what Jesus did for us on the Cross.  He took all our sins, the whole world's sins, upon him and died for us so that we may have Eternal Life!  All we have to do is accept him and confess our sins for His forgiveness.  All we have to do is come to Him each day with our cares and give them to Him ~ lay them at the foot of the Cross and He will take care of them.  By doing that, we are trusting Him with our lives!  We are acknowledging Him as King and having our best interests at heart.  Trusting Him; having faith in Him; believing Him.  Jesus said "I am the way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6)  In other words, our pathway to Heaven is paved by our love, our trust, our faith and total surrender to Jesus....in doing so, we inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, to live with our Father eternally!  That is God's promise to us.  That is the promise He gave to us when He gave us His Son!  Faith, hope, love, trust ~ completely.  Bring your worries, your cares and your sins to the Cross of Jesus, and He will take care of the rest.  On that hill far away, He paid the price for you and for me...."
