Why did I come unto the earth
when I lived upon a throne,
Why did I sacrifice myself
for those I didn't know ~
Why was I born into a world
that knows not what they do,
Why did I die upon the Cross?
it's because that I love you.
Why did I shed My precious blood
that day on Calvary,
And why did I not save Myself
if I were truly "He" ~
Why did I let them torture Me
and spit in ridicule,
As they placed a crown upon My head,
it was because I love you.
Why did I not say a word
when they made their demands,
Why did I let them burden Me
with the sins of a guilty man ~
And why did I remain silent
when they cried "Crucify the Jew!"
Though I was innocent of any crime
it was because I love you.
Why did I take it on Myself
all the sins and shame,
Why did I let them humiliate Me
and take away My name ~
And why did I accept the punishment
though there was no proof,
I was blameless and yet I died
just because I love you.
Why did I carry that heavy Cross
down the Way of Sorrows,
Why did I continue unto that hill
knowing I'd be dead tomorrow ~
And why did I lay upon the "tree"
when they hammered those nails through,
Why did I let them crucify Me?
it was because I love you.
Why did the sun disappear
and darkness fill the sky,
When I promised even sinners
they would be with Me in paradise ~
Why did I cry out "Father, forgive them
for they know not what they do",
For even as I breathed My last
it was because I love you.

"The message in this poem is simple and straight to the point. Why did Jesus come to earth knowing that He was only going to die? And why did He let them torture Him, accuse Him though He was innocent? Why did He let them release a murderer and crucify Him? Why did He not set himself free? Why did accept this fate? Why did He not change it, if He were the Son of God, the Messiah? Why did He let it happen? Why did He die? The answer is simple ~ because He loves us. He loved us then and He loves us now. Regardless of our choices, and the paths we take. Regardless of whether we accept Him or reject Him. Regardless of whether we know Him or not. Jesus loves us always. But we must make a choice to enter His kingdom of paradise. Whether we do or not, He will never stop loving us."
