That was it?!
All I had to do to save days of frustration and misery was to reseat the damned audio card. Lots of frustration vented out on the wrong things. Stupid. Should have thought that simply reseating the same card should not cause the computer to lose recognition of the device. No wonder it would not install no matter what I did. Ha!
Now the audio issue is resolved, let's move on to the internet connection. Dialed the number manually for PLDT Vibe and it was really busy, and yes, until now. I wonder if they changed access numbers or something. Now I have to resort to Bl@st, 9 hours which would be consumed before I even know it's up.
At least the sound is working and the connection failure is not caused by a glitch in the software.
Let's start ripping those CDs now.
Yellow Card is fucking awesome, only needed to play them once and you're already familiar with the songs and loving them. I guess this happens when you listen to too much emo bands, new ones come around, and you freaking like them right away. Until I read the in-lays, I did not notice classical instruments mixed in with the songs. They are not that obvious, but give out a unique sound.
Dashboard Confessional is well, Dashboard Confessional. Due to the magnificence of Yellow Card, I have yet to play Dashboard and listen through it. Love the first song, Hands Down, as I have always loved it from the first time I heard it on MP3.
After 5 days since the release, I finally got a copy of Chicosci's latest album, Icarus. Listening to it right now and am currently in the stage of familiarization.
It's been 4 days since my last blog, and a whole work week has gone by. I have finally met the target I have been previously talking about, albeit for 2 days only, that is good enough for me. Nothing much to tell about, a cancelled outing GA morphed into a breakfast GA at Whistletop, Disgaea, and more Disgaea.
The Day After Tomorrow came out last Friday, but I only saw it today as I was too lazy to drag my ass to Eastwood before 8 pm when my shift starts at 10:30 pm. The breakfast GA perfectly filled in the gap from end-of-shift to start-of-first-screening.
I watched this movie with a simple motive, to be entertained. I did not have any expectations about this movie, as it is a typical disaster movie. I'd say it is one of the better disaster movies. A good filler in-between Shrek 2 last week and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban next week.
Oh, and I was amused by the ending, just listen to the president's statement. Ha! America bowing down, now that's a sight.
One more thing, Eastwood Cinemas have guaranteed seats, and I normally choose seat E11. Well, in Cinema 1 of the said mall, the air-conditioning was directly above you and every now and then, droplets of water would fall down. It kind of made the experience more life-like.
Dropped by O Music Bar with hopes of scoring a copy of Icarus as I did not want to troop down to Megamall. Good thing they had a couple on display, I hate asking sales people questions, so if I don't see what I want, I'd go look somewhere else.
Placed the copy back and decided to check DVDs as I just enough money for one of each. Saw a copy of Spiderman for 750 Php, which I wanted to buy and watch before the sequel comes out, but for some odd reason, I decided to check the discounted DVDs section first. A standard edition of Iron Giant was on display, but I wanted the Special Edition, and the last time I checked at Metro East was pegged at 895 Php.
After some digging, I was shocked to see a copy of the special edition for 575 Php. I quickly dumped Spidey, picked up the Special Edition Iron Giant DVD and Chicosci's Icarus and headed out the bar a happy guy.
Of course I paid for them first before heading out the bar.

This computer has been acting up lately. A week ago, a whole folder of webcomic wallpapers disappeared with no trace whatsoever. Now, it would just shutdown whenever it wanted to. Generally happens at random points I have yet to determine, but it would always do it when I do a full system scan of the computer.
I was blogging the same message above last night when it happened again. Enter frustration and anxiety. I believe the old hard drive had been causing the problem, since it has a different file system and still has an active windows partition on it.
Just disabled the bloody thing by removing it's power supply, and I think the computer is working fine now. Except for the fact that the audio is gone. I reseated the audio card and now am unable to install the drivers for it. Stupid computer cannot find the bloody drivers on the CD.
I was going to try downloading the drivers off the Internet, but bad luck comes as a complete package. Only connect using PLDT Vibe, and for some reason it would just not connect saying the line is busy. Stupid.
It's amusing when you fix computers for a living and have to come home to fix your own computer. Wonderful life ain't it?
It's Wednesday again, which means going back to work later. The two day off just ended like that. Let's try to recap what I accomplished in those two days.
Watched Shrek 2, finished Onimusha 3, and watched Vanilla Sky, Taxi Driver and Punch Drunk Love on video. That's basically it, in addition to troubleshooting this damned PC. Don't get me wrong, I love this PC, it's just been kindda uncooperative lately.
Shrek 2 is a fun movie, amusing and wonderfully made. It's amazing how they were able to make a sequel out of it after practically closing out the story in the first one since they did get married. It would be easier if they didn't which would have made the movie open ended. Anyway, I have to agree with almost everyone that Puss In Boots steals the show in this one. Go now and watch it.
Onimusha 3 was a quick game, well, they all were short but had a decent storyline with it. Nobunaga finally died, but the series ain't over yet. I'd say the game is quite easy under normal mode. Jumping from one era to the other while solving puzzles is amusing. Changes in the past affect the future in amusing ways.
Taxi Driver and Punch Drunk Love are movies I have not had the opportunity yet to see, which is why I picked up copies when I was in the record bar the other day. Both great movies that I should have really seen much earlier. Better late than never, I guess.
Was in the mall Monday and picked up copies of Yellow Card and Dashboard Confessional, a healthy dose of emo fixation. The Dashboard CD looks cheap though, especially for the pricetag of 400+ PhP, there is no album in-lay, just a piece of paper with the album cover in front.
Until now, there is still no connection available, the line is still busy. Stupid dial-up.

I was late for work yesterday, late for atleast 6 minutes, yet it hardly bothers me at all because something truly fascinating happened.
When you happen to be late during the night shift, it is possible for you to run out of seats which are initially plotted for the whole team. You would then be scattered in the crowd, alone among the other teams.
This would not be bad though if you are sitting next to your crush which was exactly the case last night. Yes, I know I never mentioned her in this journal. There are a lot of pretty girls at work, but this one is different. I've had my eyes on her for a few weeks now.
Anyway, sitting next to her was fun, even though we did not utter a single word to each other except for that time she bumped my chair and apologized for it. She was on my left. On my right was a friend of one of my teammates who informed us that she is indeed taken already. Tough luck, she's still pretty as hell anyway. And I now know her first name. That's a start!
Work is definitely turning for the worst. There is a recent campaign that forces us to reach a certain target by the end of the day. Lofty and quite unimaginable for someone like myself, but still I'll try to get my act back together and perform.
Hehehehe...
I have to be a bit careful about what I say, people do read this crap.
I mentioned how much I wanted to go to an album launch this Friday to my teammates. One teammate, who happens to be a previous member of Fuseboxx excitedly asked, "Which band?". To which I quickly replied, "Chicosci." He let out a grunted "Oh, Chicosci." reply. Amusing. He still hasn't acquired a copy of the bands songs yet.
Anyone remember Pulpito? It just happens that the lead vocal of the band was a wave mate of mine during training. Call centers attract a colorful bunch of people.

Again, I made the foolish mistake of not counting the days well enough. Shrek 2's release date is on the 21st, I sincerely thought it was a Wednesday.
This simply means I do not have to go to work early today, and can spend the rest of the day slacking off.
This also changes my movie viewing for the week, to avoid any hassle of going to work early on the 21st just to catch Shrek 2, I have decided to just wait until Monday, after work to watch movies, Shrek 2 followed up by Dirty Dancing 2 should be enough to cure my movie fixations for the week.
Shifting schedules and day-offs really fucks up ones sense of time. Until now, my body is still not used sleeping during the day. By used, I mean, 3 hours of sleep during the day would be enough to charge me up for the rest of the day. This is still not the case until now.
Finally watched Amelie yesterday, and it is one great movie. Am regretting the fact that I only saw it now.
My brother bought a bootleg copy of Kill Bill Volume 2 a few weeks ago, and I have been pushing it down. I really wanted to watch this film in the theaters first, but due to unseen difficulties, I was forced to watch the bootleg copy. The thing is, there is still no clear release date for the film locally.
The film is a bit more on the serious side this time, and not as action-packed as the first. The fight scene between Elle and the Bride fills in the gaps nicely, but was not enough to satisfy my urge for blood, which would be one of the reasons volume 2 pales in comparison with volume 1, the amount of blood.
This does not mean the movie is not great, since it is. It fills in the gaps in the story nicely, though a few questions remain, like where is Sophie. Just don't expect to see the same amount of blood and violence as the first.
Anyway, this was supposed to be one movie, which could explain why the action died out in the second half and shifted to a more serious tone.
Am hoping the bootleg copy I watched had a lot of cuts in order to squeeze it on to the two CDs, so watching the movie again in the theaters would hold a number of surprises. One thing's for sure, am watching this on the big screen whenever it comes out.
Damn. You try so hard not to support piracy (movie, music, as videogames are another story) and they squeeze you into such a situation. Take Big Fish for example, it had a limited release in the country, and the only cinema showing it was Greenbelt, which quite a deviation from the work-to-home traveling I do everyday. Now I have to settle for a pirated copy.
There is always a good side to everything, and if wasn't for piracy, we could safely say goodbye to simultaneous releases.
Read Wasted, the graphic novel by Gerry Alanguilan, which I first came across through Pulp. Anyway, reading it brought back some not-so-distant memories.
Enough of this, I need my videogaming fix for the day and my lunch.

No. This ain't right at all. The Chicosci album launch for Icarus is on Friday, which means I won't be able to go there due to my stupid work. Work has really ruined what little life I had before. Hahaha...
Enough contemplating about that, I just hope I'd get my hands on the new album as soon as possible.
Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) just finished last Saturday and I was a bit hyped about it for almost nothing.
Did not have much information about the show due to a doomed dial-up connection at home and a secure connection at work. The connection at work was fast, extremely fast, but there are people watching what you are doing and browsing, so I had to be a little subtle visiting only legit news websites for tidbits of information about the show.
I bet there were a lot of interesting games in the show, but most of them were games shown at E3 last year, and was supposed to be released this year. I guess the most interesting news and information from the show was the announcement of the Playstation Portable (PSP) and the Nintendo DS (DS). The handheld gaming wars have stepped up a notch.
I am more particular about the PSP, as it is more of a gadget than simple a handheld gaming console. It has the ability to play movies and play tunes. It offers wireless support and the design is oh-so sexy.
This does not say that am not interested with the DS, it offers two screens, one main gaming screen and the other used with a stylus. One could just imagine the kind of innovation it brings.
This year's E3 would have been an information overload for me, but with crappy network connection, I was just left with tidbits of information. I hope the next edition of Game Masters would have a pretty decent E3 coverage.

Someone finally agreed with about my perception towards work, and why I have such a pessimistic attitude towards it. If you don't get what I mean, it's again about that promotion thing I have been ranting about since February. Sic.
Shifting work skeds suck. You are utterly unable to plan anything within a few weeks or days, you have to plan it months before.
The whole Baguio Team is in Quezon right now for the Pahiyas festival, all of team except me. Damn. If I only knew about it, I would have filed for a leave back in, hmmm, January.
Well, it ain't all bad all the time. Sometimes, and I mean once-in-a-blue-moon-plus-lunar-eclipse-in-a-month sometime, it does turn out good. After going back to work for three days, we are heading to another two day off. Thank goodness, I feel my body is gonna drop dead anytime now.
Mentioned Troy last Friday. I was forced to watch the 8 pm showing due to an unexpected twist. When I got there by 6:30, the 6:40 screening was already sold out, first time I experienced such a feat at the Eastwood Cinemas. I guess, I did not take into consideration that it was a Friday-pay-day night, plus the fact that the action would appeal to boys and the actors/cast would appeal to the ladies. Come on, Eric Bana, Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom. And by the way, I liked Eric Bana's performance the most.
The movie itself was captivating, while you are watching it, that is. Once you step out and ponder about what just happened in the last 2 hours and 45 minutes, you then realize it does not make any sense. I have not read Homer's The Iliad in it's entirety, but as a casual movie go-er, I find it lacking in the hero department. You'd leave the cinemas thinking, "Who won?"
I am particularly amused by Achilles' Jumping Stab Attack which was used repeatedly and how Paris grew to become Legolas in the film. Hahaha...
Shrek 2 is opening this Wednesday, and due to the recent shift in schedules, my movie viewing has been affected. This means, I have to watch Shrek 2 before going to work on Wednesday. I have high hopes for this one.

What?! It has been 4 days already since I last blogged?! I did not notice that at all. So where should I start?
Am finally coming off two days of rest, well, they are rest days though I did not use them specifically on rest. I think I sleep more during regular working days.
Right after work on Wednesday morning, movies were on the top of the to-do-list. Unfortunately, Troy had an international release of May 13, and being the 12th and all, I had to look for something else to watch.
Thanks to ClicktheCity, I found that Robinson's Galleria had a screening for City of God (Cidade de Deus), a film that got a nod at the Oscar's for Best Foreign Film.
After some breakfast with team mates, I headed to Galleria. I was a little too early, and the saleslady rudely reminded me off that. Bloody bitch. I really have this thing for Galleria's Cinemas, and this just added to that. Consumer's Choice Awards my ass. I would not have watched here if it wasn't for the fact that they were the only theater in the Metro showing the flick.
The movie itself was spectacular, my eyes were strained due to the subtitling as I did not have my eyeglasses with me, but it is one great film. You should see it.
Considering that it was still early, I decided to watch another movie, Jersey Girl, but this time in Megamall. I watched this movie because Kevin Smith directed it, otherwise I would have stayed miles away from it. Gigli anyone? This is a great direction for Kevin Smith movies, fun but smart, it's an amusing comedy.
That's how I spent Wednesday. Thursday was quite different, as it feels I was abducted by aliens.
A copy of the whole Taken mini-series had been lying around the house for quite sometime now, which would have been okay if it was mine, but it was a friend just lent it to me. Knowing myself, I would not watch one or two episodes a day and eventually finish it within a week. Am the type who would want to sit down and watch the whole thing.
Finally had the chance to do so yesterday, add the fact that everyone was going out for a trip. I purposefully woke up early for this, around 7 in the morning, considering that I have only been asleep for 4 hours. Watched 4 episodes in the morning, then came across an interesting basketball game which I should not have watched since I had this feeling they would loose anyway.
After two hours and some lunch, I watched 1 more episode, followed by a short break for Naruto and a quick shower, after which 3 more episodes came up. Stopped after the 8th episode, as house members already arrived and it was almost 12 midnight by then.
Woke up at reasonable 9 in the morning today for the last 2 episodes.
I said so much about the experience, but what about the series itself. Steven Spielberg is an absolute genius, and this series stands out as another of his great works. The story of how it interlaced the paths of three distinct and separate families is truly fascinating.
Wish I could say more, but let's make it short. Right. It's too long already.
Besides, am planning of watching Troy before work. There is a nice 8 o'clock screening, but I don't want to take my chances coming to work late, so am settling for the 6:40 screening instead, though I have to start preparing to leave like now.

Election Day today. Hoping people make a good decision with the votes they are casting, the very future of the nation depends on it. That is, if there is a future at all.
Did not notice that I am actually a registered voter. I remembered I registered a few years, but I doubted it was finalized. A few days ago, I received a sample ballot, a list of all the candidates, with my name printed on the front indicating a precinct number.
Am not voting though. If you know me well enough, you would know how much I hate crowds, and there was a mighty big one outside school this noon.
I'd rather spend the small amount of time I have on more relevant things, like blogging.
I don't know why, but blogging starts to irritate me and I find it pointless, yet I keep on blogging whenever I can. At 3 in the afternoon, it would be a pretty good time to sleep as I have to wake up before 7 for work. Imagine that.
Damn, am I sleepy. Last Saturday, I went to a wedding right after work and did not sleep at all. Stayed awake for more than 24 hours with no sleep whatsoever. When I got home yesterday, I just dropped on bed and snoozed off within a few seconds. Had the most peculiar dream, I spent the day with a friend who is now in Japan. See, she came home for a visit, and it seemed that I was free to accompany her. In the dream, I was coming from two days without sleep. The dream was so vivid that I really thought I spent another day awake, plus I was wondering if I'd ever to hold up at work that night. Woke up a few minutes later in the safety and comfort of my bed.
For no exact reason, I was a bit edgy last night. Work starts at 11, which is fine, knowing that it was just 7:30 in the evening. I took my time eating dinner, forcefully finishing up what was served on my plate, but sadly, to no avail. When I was about to take a shower, mom told me that they would not be able to take me to school as the van was not home yet. This place is not one of the best places to get a late night trip back to Manila. I was able to catch a jeep before 9:30, but I still had this effing feeling of not making it on time due to some fucked up fiasco.
The thing is, if I'd be late again this month for more than three minutes, it would be citable which would reflect on my clean record. Nah, I don't really care about the record much, the main reason why I was so edgy was due to the fact that I would still have to explain myself. I hate making excuses, especially if it ain't really my fault. I hate blaming someone else. Even in a relationship, I just admit I was wrong or something, then apologize about it, rather than standing my ground by making excuses, even if they ain't tall tales.
Quite a good characteristic I have, considering the direction personal relationships have led to so far.
See how I hate blogging. It's lengthy already, and boring.

Again, am stuck here at Station 168, burning some time and money.
There's a wedding in Pasig, and everyone in the family is going, so I can't just
choose to go home and sleep.
Been a few days since I last blogged. Yup, the last one was here too, albeit a
different pc and no cute girl blogging in her own lj.
Anyway, what's the point in all of this. Maybe am just feeling a little uneasy
due to the lack of sleep.
Sure, it was my night-off yesterday, but I spent the whole day wondering around.
Right off the bad, I watched Van Helsing.
Nice movie, especially for those who are really into classic literary monsters.
I'd say it was pretty decent, though they should have cast someone else than
Kate Beckinsale.
Proceed to Robinson's Metro East and was just in time for a screening of
Starsky and Hutch. Now this is one good
movie. I have no idea what Starsky and Hutch except that it was a tv show in the
past, neither have I watched Old School, but I should say that I was quite
amused by this flick.
Two movies was enough, so I decided to go shopping. Purchased a shirt, two video
cd (Amelie and
Brotherhood of the Wolf), Cowboy Bebop
Series on DVD, and Far Cry.
Far Cry is a beautifully crafted game. I for
one, am not really into first-person shooters, but this one caught my attention
from the moment I saw it on TV. Simply beautiful. Makes you wanna visit the
tropics.
Damn. The download speed on this particular pc is so damn slow. Have just
finished watching the Chronicles of Riddick
and am currently waiting for The Village. Normally, I would have watched four or
five by now, but today is different.
Oh well, just this one and am out.
Before that, some slightly good news at work. The whole team is back to
supporting notebook computers. Good enough, but not quite good enough to entice
me to stay longer. Add to that, another wavemate just got promoted. Cool.
Envious.

Worked finished early today. So am here at Station 168 in Libis, watching all
the trailers I fancy.
Well, it seemed like it did since I need to wait until 11:20 which is the first
screening of the day for Van Helsing at the
Eastwood Cinemas. Yeah, it's the
main cinema of choice. Actually, Metro East could have woed me over but the
first screening for Van Helsing there is at 1 in the afternoon. Am not going to
wait that long.
Damn. That was quick. Less than thirty minutes before the movie. Need to buy my
ticket, grab a cup of frap and sit back and indulge myself with another movie.
<footnote>
I find it amusing to blog in Internet cafes. This girl beside me is also
blogging on her lj. =) She's cute. Kindda.

Wanted to watch Van Helsing today, but no amount of careful planning could prepare me for this.
The movie is unexpectedly, 2 and a half hours long and the screening before the LFS is at 7 in the evening, which meant leaving home earlier than 5 which alternately means, waking up at 4 in the afternoon. Unless I wanted to kill myself or something, I decided to just catch the first screening of the film tomorrow being our day-off and all.
I mean, what's the difference? Right?
The only other film opening tomorrow is Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. I'll pass on that one. I bet am much better off watching Starsky and Hutch.
I forgot to mention this before, but I have FINALLY filed for leaves. Filed 4 days in a row. A definite 4 day off despite changes in the schedule. The drawback. It's two months into the future. The leaves I filed are for July 4-8 but only 5-8 got approved.
The trouble with this kind of job is you have to file your leaves 3 months before the intended date.
This means you have to be able to predict the future. Possible scenarios would be:
Amusing right?
This does not say that I know what is going to happen on July 5-8, it's just an important date so I picked them. Initially had my sights on June 12-14, which would coincide with the NU107 Independence Day Session. Unfortunately, stupid me waited too long and now all of June is pretty much booked.

Damn!
It had only been the third day of the month and already am late by 7 minutes, simply because I slept too long. Set the alarm at 7 in the evening, but I instinctively turned it off. When I asked my mom if she had tried waking me up, she said yes, several times. Bah, this would never happen when am at the day shift were an hours sleep would suffice.
Anyway, nobody noticed it when I got to work, and when attendance had already been reported as perfect. A few minutes after I arrived, the team leader came, meaning I could have lied about the whole thing and avoided being late. But no, am not like that, am totally honest and shit.
Speaking about honest, the blog below was technically not completed yesterday. Halfway through it, workers around the house started some welding jobs which made the voltage fluctuate like crazy. Did not want to risk it, so I turned the computer off.
It is still truthful, right?
Work again later, this time at 12 midnight. Real inconvenient and sort of ruins my plans for tomorrow a bit.
Van Helsing is opening tomorrow, and of course, I'll be present on opening day. Sadly, work finishes late at around 9 in the morning, considering I'd finish everything before the end of the shift, and starts early for the next "day" at 11 in the evening. With a little careful planning, I'd be able to squeeze in Van Helsing before going to work on Wednesday.
Here I go again. Body is starting to ache all over. I feel a cold is coming up due to the intense heat. Yes, a cold due to heat. Try having an electric fan on you or bathing in your own sweat. I love this country.
I really do need to sleep now. Can't be late two times in a row.
| |
Night shift really sucks up the life in you, to the point where you have none left to do anything aside from work.
Everything about the night shit, I mean, shift sucks major ass. It's not a question of staying up late, which like I said in the past has never been a problem for me. It's more off destroying one's body clock in order to fit in and adapt.
Sadly, the human body is not designed to sleep during the day, as a result doing so requires an excessive amount of time. At night, one could sleep for less than three hours and wake up refreshed. During the day, one can sleep the whole day and wake up wanting more sleep.
Night off last Saturday. Due to the lack of movie viewing and with School of Rock showing, choose to drop by a mall and hang out a little.
Metro East would have been an easy choice considering the quality of their theaters and how I love them. But with an apparent lack of a decent record bar, I ticked it off the list. What other option would be nice other than the Mall of the Pilipino Masses, SM Megamall, as I see it since I have never been to the much talked about SM Fairview.
After picking the right mall, I then remembered, it was Saturday, Labor Day and summer break. Add a major mall-wide sale and we have the perfect ingredients from one helluva packed mall.
I survived it anyway, barely arriving in time for the 10:30 screening for School of Rock, thanks again to ClickTheCity. Dropped by Tower and picked up copies of the Eraserheads Anthology, Kill Bill Vol. II OST, and a copy of The Matrix Revolutions.
The Eraserheads compilation is nostalgic. The Kill Bill Vol. II OST does not have that same appeal as the first, mainly caused by buying the OST before seeing the movie. As for The Matrix Revolutions, I have yet to watch it. Just barely had the time to browse through the additional content, mainly The Matrix Online peek.
There was also an event at the Megatrade Hall dubbed the 2004 NexTech Consumer Electronics Show. Being the gadget geek that I am, I decided to have a look.
It was the second day of the show, which could be the reason why I found the show appalling compared to shows in the US.
Of course, what would one expect. The first and last days are usually the most crowded ones.
The booths lacked content having only a few items on display.
The Redfox display had the most number of items on display, ranging from video cards to modified casings. There was a ATI Radeon 9800SE on this display, but it is SE, so why bother, was hoping to get a glimpse of the 9800XT. The booth was still the best.
There were also Audio-Visual booths which showcased impressive Home Theater setups. Unfortunately, they were not built into rooms, which degraded the sound quality. Of course, I just passed them up since it would be years before I could afford one of them.
The most interesting booth was from the DLSU - College of Computer Studies, which had a few business applications and games developed on display. There was supposed to be a wall climbing robot but did not get to see it in action, and settled for a simplistic robot which could climb steps and follow a black line.
The amusing thing was one of the guys handed me a flyer for DLSU - CCS. Check. Been there, done that. Well, almost.
Was home by 5 in the afternoon, but opted not to sleep yet. Stayed up until around 9 in the evening, when it suddenly rained. Damn! The rain and the though of sleeping during the night was simply too hard to resist. Slept well until 8 in the morning the next day.
