Camp Remote

Remote, Oregon

From July 13th - July 20th, there was a really awesome camp up in Remote, Oregon that I went to with Josh and his best friend, Troy. When we got there, the first thing we had to do was register and pay for the week... Part of the registration process meant signing up for KP (for those who haven't been to camp in a while, KP means Kitchen Patrol) and signing up to go repelling depending on whether or not you wanted to. Against my will, Josh signed me up so I "had" to go... I'm not a huge, huge outdoor type of person and I get scared when it comes to going down hills that are pretty steep...not to mention GOING OVER CLIFFS!! Well this one wasn't too bad or at least it seemed like it wasn't too bad. That was until I started going over the edge...I have to say I was pretty scared but, even though I temporarily hated him, I was really glad that Josh signed me up to do this. I'm sorry I was a bum and didn't take any other camp pictures so you get to deal with just the repelling pictures.

Here's my studly boyfriend getting on his repelling gear. Courtney was the designated "helper" so she picked out everyone's gear and helped them get it on.

That man is such a stud!! After he got all of his gear on and everything, I had to get a picture of him before he went down. Isn't he a stud?? Too bad - he's mine! :)

The person off to the left of Josh is the wonderful Jen who was responsible for the repelling part of camp. The guy off to the right is Casey who was Jen's helper as well but he was strapped in so that if anything happened while we were going down, he'd be the one coming down after us. It was nice to know he was there...

Here's Joshuatree again, getting ready to head on down the cliff... Does it strike anyone else as funny that he waited until after I went to go? I guess he wanted me to test it out for him first.. :)

Can you see him in the second picture? On the way down, he was moving all over the place trying to go down a little faster than Troy would let him. Troy was up at the top acting as the security person - he let you down as fast as he wanted you to go. Well, Josh is so light that he was sitting there jumping with the line way out on the side of him and he was going nowhere...anyone else that would've been doing that, for the non-repellers, would've been at the bottom before they could blink...

After about 5 minutes, Josh made it back up the hill. Once you get over the edge, it wasn't too far from where you stopped and started heading back up. I'll agree with Josh that it wasn't as much of a rush as I had been hoping but it was still fun...

I put Josh in charge of the camera while I went down... Here's cute ol' me in my gear and getting ready to go down the cliff :)

From this angle it doesn't look like I'm about to go over a cliff huh? No...ok I was scared just standing there!! I seriously was expecting the line to break and I was going to go tumbling over this cliff and die... It didn't really work out that way but I was still scared!

I think I'm all of about 5 steps from being at the top again and I was a little nervous...I was also not going anywhere. I wouldn't consider myself to be a terribly light person but I'm light enough that I wasn't moving really far even if I let the line out away from my side...not to mention Troy was regulating how fast I was going to move. Anyway I was still getting the hang of it but Casey came down to make sure I was doing alright. I also had two water bottles in my harness thingamajig to give to Jonah who was at the bottom to get everyone ready to head back up and they were falling out so Casey came to get them.

Oh yeah...who is that total babe who has mastered the art of repelling? I don't know either... About where I was at, the cliff started dropping off and after that point you couldn't see anyone up on top. It was just you, the lines and the guy at the bottom... It was probably about 20 feet (if that...) from where I went over to where I stopped and got situated so I could go back up. The way up is the coolest part - you basically sit there and move your feet while the people up on top pull you back up. I think that was the funnest part - yeah, so I'm a lazy person!

Woohoo!! I am such a stud when it comes to repelling...or so I'd like to think so no one better pop my bubble. After I got back up to the top, I was sweating like a little piglet because it was hotter than snot outside. I would've taken my sweatshirt off but Jen preferred that you had long sleeves on going down and I had only tank tops with me so I had to wear my sweatshirt...yuck. Anyway once I got back up, I realized that it wasn't as wonderful as I was hoping it would be because like Josh would say, "it wasn't intense"... I can officially say I've been repelling, though!

Poor Troy...the only thing he did all day was sit there, tied up to my beautiful 1993 Toyota Tacoma with no guts and let people down the cliff and sit there while everyone on top pulled people back up the cliff... Isn't that a pretty truck though? I'm so proud of that thing - it's going with me to college and it'll be my vehicle for the next 15 years :) I just need a job so I can pay the insurance...

Here's Troy again... I kinda felt bad for him but then again I didn't feel bad for him...know what I mean, Jellybean? He didn't really get to do much of anything but oh well..he got a farmer's tan :)
