As a Christian Union we adopt the aim of mission and maturity. This means that as well as looking to grow in ourselves and as a group, we also look to spread the gospel at every opportunity. We believe that the Bible states very clearly that the purpose of every single person is to grow more like Jesus Christ, and to tell others about him. It is absolutely essential that people hear about Jesus and what he did for us on the cross. People can't believe in, and follow him unless they have heard about him. As a Christian Union we believe that it is our very real responsibility to tell people.
On an individual basis, the CU attempts to equip Christians to reach out to the people around them. It is through friendship and a loving environment that so many people have come to believe and follow Jesus. People are encouraged to reach out to those around them that they care about. We also aim to show people the power and love of God through the way we live and as a witness to those around us. We believe that the gospel must be delivered through the love it was given in order to be received. This is what we try to do.
As a group we also run several events designed to introduce people to the Christian Union. Through regular informal meetings, questionnaires, café's and missions we try to communicate the gospel through more relaxed methods. Look out for regular events throughout the terms. Our evangelism does not take place just through meetings though. It is the focus of our lives to be witnesses to what we believe.
If you are just enquiring about the CU and don't yet believe in Jesus as your personal Saviour, then please look out for our events and come along. If you are already, or are going to be, a student at York St. John then please get in contact with us as soon as possible. We're here to serve.
