Pat Arana -Trombone The newest addition to the Stompers, Pat is a veteran jazz player. He has probably played with every jazz group in the Saint Louis area and was a charter member of Jean Kittrell and Red Lehr's Old Saint Louis Levee Band which has performed across the U.S. and Europe. A retired band teacher, Pat's trombone playing soars and growls the full range of the instrument
Jack Tartar-Drums The only charter member of the Stompers, Jack is one the finest drummers anywhere in the country. Jack perfected his drumming skills during a stint in the Navy and effortlessly shifts from one playing style to another. One of the most sought after drummers in the St. Louis area, Jack has played with Steve Allen, backed the Ink Spots and Four Aces, toured with the Sammy Kaye Orchestra throughout the United States including Hawaii, and is currently touring with Jean Kittrel. An avid outdoorsman, Jack spends much of his leisure time camping, canoeing and watching wildlife.

Joe Schulte-Tuba Joe is the heavy metal man in the band. He owns six tubas ranging from a large concert model to a 90-year-old helicon. There are very few trad bands in the St. Louis area that Joe hasn't anchored. He also stays busy in May and October playing German music. You ought to see the big guy in the leather shorts and little hat.
Bob Grimm-Banjo One of the two finest Dixie banjo pickers in this part of the country, Bob Grimm seems to have played with just about everybody. He enjoyed a long stand aboard the Robert E. Lee riverboat with Jean Kittrell and the Old Saint Louis Levee Band. Since then, if there was a Dixie quartet or trio around, odds are Bob was there. Now retired from his day job, he is at liberty to play as often as he wishes, and that is a lot. Few string men possess Bob's knowledge of chord structure, his vast traditional jazz repertoire, and his ability to drive a rhythm section.

Dave Majchrzak (pronounced Mayzak)-Piano Dave plays a driving traditional jazz and stride piano. He has led his own bands since his high school days and plays contemporary, rock and swing as easily as he plays Dixie. Dave often works with the Bob Kuban organization. When Japan's Emperor Akihito visited St. Louis, Dave, Don and Bob Grimm entertained him with classic Ragtime music. For several years Dave has also played solo Ragtime gigs at venues including the Ragfest on the Goldenrod Showboat and at Silver Dollar City. A veterinarian by day, Dave also contributes heavily to the band's arrangements.

Mike Lilley-Clarinet Mike is leader Steve Lilley's identical twin brother. During his 20-year career in the air Force, Mike served as a Titan missile launch officer and an information officer. Retiring as a lieutenant colonel, he now divides his time among his family, his bird dog, and his clarinet. In his youth, he played the rural dance halls where large men were thrown around the room toward midnight. He finds the Stompers' jobs much tamer. Our older and more settled patrons only throw small men around and always long before midnight.

Steve Lilley-Cornet Steve joined the Stompers eight years ago, and now fronts the band. Before the Stompers, he played off and on with a number of groups in the St. Louis area. In fact, a group he led may have had the longest name of any trad group in the area: The Chamber Music Society of Greater Lincoln County (picture that on a name tag). Since then, he has played with Bill Davis' Gateway City 6, All that Jazz, The Front Line, and now is a regular member of Jean Kittrell's Saint Louis Rivermen. A retired teacher, he also has three books on world history in print.
