The HAMMERHEADS are the
Summer 2002 Champions !!!

      The playoff game Hammerheads - Loral Space was a real showdown between the best two teams of the C conference. With the championship at stake both teams played their best and kept a great pressure on each other and on all of the spectators until the very end.
      The Loral Space had the first goal of the game on a deflection at the 10-minute mark of the first period. In a second period neither team was able to get a goal. With about 5 minutes left in the third the Loral Space had a great chance to go up 2 goals but Mike Chicas made a spectacular glove safe and kept the Hammerheads in this game. With 1 minute and 12 seconds left the Hammerheads got a power play chance with the face-off deep in the Loral’s zone. After using a timeout, they replaced their goalie with the 6th player for this critical draw. And... it took them only 4 seconds to score – Ryan Limaye won a face-off and always being in the right place at the right time Subra Narayan scored the equilizer!
      But it wasn’t over yet. There was a 5-minute sudden death overtime still to be played. For the Hammerheads even a tie was as good as a win because they were the division winners in the regular season. For the Loral, who needed only a win, the overtime didn’t start too good – 20 second in and they get a penalty for elbowing. The Hammerheads didn’t let their chance to go away and after keeping a constant pressure on the power play Craig Wallace with a set up from Brent Jenkins and Ryan Limaye scored a game winner!

      The Hammerheads win the championship for the 3rd consecutive time! Congratulation!


LAST GAME(s) HIGHLIGHTS:

- September 8. The Hammerheads skated to their largest win this season beating the Usual Suspects 11:1.
- In the previous 12 games nobody on the Hammerheads roster recorded a hat-trick. But in the game against the Usual Suspects it happened twice: Ryan Limaye and Ken Anstey scored 3 goals each.
- Jon Luong scored his first goal as the Hammerhead. Patrick Chang scored his first goal of the season.
- Ryan Limaye had a 6-point night (3+3). His last assist on Mickey Borsody's goal was Ryan's 100th point scored for the Hammerheads! He is the first one to reach this plateau! Congratulations!


- September 9. For the first time in three seasons the Hammerheads had to play back-to-back nights. And the game against the Loral Space was of a great importance. It could determine who finishes on top in the 'C' conference. The Loral Space were 2 points behind the Hammerheads and they had no option but only to win to get the crown.
      Even though the Hammerheads were missing one of their best centers (Ryan Limaye) they fought with all of their might and posted a 2:1 win behind a strong play by the backup goalie Mike Phipps. The Hammerheads' "playing coach" Ken Anstey gave the high marks to the defensive units Jeff Brezovec - Roman Gendler, Subra Narayan - Robert Chen as well. By the way, Jeff was trying so hard that he broke 2 of his sticks in one period (how often does this happen?). Unfortunately, Subra saw his assists and points scoring streaks to stop at 8 games (2nd best for assists and 3rd best for points on the all-time list).

The Hammerheads win the division title for the 3rd consecutive time and finish the 14 game season with a very impressive record of 10-4.
