HIGHLIGHTS:
Playoffs are here!!!
The Hammerheads - defending champions, and the
Usual Suspects are in the playoffs again (as in
the last season meeting) but this time around it
is the best of 3 series to determine who wins it
all.
The Hammerheads
started the game with a quick goal by Craig
Wallace in the first minute. Jeff
Brezovec added another one 4,5 minutes
later with a nice shoot from the blue line. The
Usual Suspects cut the deficit in goals to one
just 1,5 minutes later on a break away. But
before the first intermision, the Hammerheads
created some breathing room - Brent
Jenkins scored one more goal to make it
3:1.
Second period was
scoreless and it was still too early to call the
game. If the Usual Suspects score one in the
third then it's again a one-goal game. So, the
Hammerheads had to come out strong in the third
period and secure the win. And they did! First, Roman
Gendler scored a shorthanded goal making
it 4:1. And then, with one minute to go, Craig
Wallace scored his second of the night!
The Hammerheads
scored five goals but none of them would've
happened if not for the magic touch of Ken
Anstey - he assisted on all five goals
!!! And if it wasn't for the goalie Rik
Kirchner the score could have been much
different. He had 14 saves on 15 shots and the
only goal he allowed was on a break away. (Thanks
to the Sting who loaned him to the Hammerheads
for the first two playoff games.)
Well, the Hammerheads
are one step away from winning the championship
second season in a row. The next (and maybe the
final) game of the Winter 2001-2002 season is
Sunday, April 21, in San Mateo Ice Challet, at 10:30
pm. There are still seats available to watch this
game live although you may prefer to stay at home
and watch it on ESPN2 (taped).
