Biker Mice? Primer Who's Who Where...? Gadgets and Gizmos BM Voice Cast

Handsome, debonair, and all-around dashing, Throttle is the extremely capable leader of the Biker Mice from Mars. In both action and looks, he's the quintessential biker (or at least, biker Mouse): decked out in leather and sunglasses, tough, able to hold his own in a fight, and so cool you get chilly just hanging around him. Is it any wonder he's so popular with the ladies?

ThrottleGroomed from his late teens to be Stoker's successor as leader of the Freedom Fighters, Throttle has a natural flair for command. He has a keen gasp of responsibility and the ability to come up with a plan for any situation. When the Biker Mice ride into battle, it's Throttle who decides on the strategy, assessing the situation with lightning-quick speed and immediately knowing what to do.

Generally, Throttle's personality is sort of "middle of the road." Modo and Vinnie tend to be at opposite extremes emotionally; the former is a bit more reserved, while the latter is reckless and uninhibited. Throttle is somewhere between those two. He's not as hyperactive as Vinnie (who could be?), but isn't as laid-back as Modo. Sometimes, this fact causes him to be eclipsed by his bros, especially given Throttle's tendency not to talk much unless it's pertinent or important.

But Throttle is in no way a bland, blank slate. He tends to be somber and more serious than either of his bros. Although that's probably always been a part of him, he seems to have been strongly affected by the Plutarkian War, and especially the havoc wreaked on his home planet by the former villain Hard Rock (just look at how pissy he is with the guy!). This is not to say, however, that he can 't cut loose and fool around. Far from it. When he and his bros are mopping up the floor with Limburger’s goons, Throttle joins in the fray with as many one-liners as the next mouse. He can be a ham at times, though he is rarely given to just letting go entirely and being a goof. The one exception? During “Once Upon a Time On Mars Part Two”, in which he (and Vinnie) are still shaking off the effects of an anesthetic administered by Karbunkle. Throttle makes bad jokes the caliber of which he never exceeds (including the infamous “Osmond in a snow-storm” joke).

It seems logical that Throttle is also the most intelligent of the trio. No real evidence to back this one up; it just seems to make sense. He's definitely the group historian; whenever the time comes to tell Charley about anything involving the mice's life before they came to Earth, Throttle is the one who tells her about it. Whether it's through words, like in "Once Upon a Time On Mars", or through sharing his memories with her, like "Rock & Ride" or "The Verminator", it's the mice's leader that explains things. How he got the job is uncertain. Maybe it's just one of the responsibilities of being leader, or maybe some of the stories were just too painful for his bros to related. In "The Verminator", Modo can't bring himself to tell Charley that his arm was made by Dr. Karbunkle, so he asks Throttle do it for him. Likewise, Vinnie might have difficulty relating the story of how he lost half his face to the mechanic, so it's up to Throttle once again.

Physically, Throttle is in outstanding shape and is a superb athlete, which is puzzling, considering his exclusive diet of hot dogs and root beer. Throttle's butt, object of admiration to many female fans.Like Modo and Vinnie, he eschews shirts (a major plus for female Biker Mice fans) and favors tight jeans and leather (another plus). Despite Vinnie's claims to the contrary, it's obvious that Throttle is the real looker of the group. With his great body, handsome face, and long hair (often lengthened in FanArt, for some reason), Throttle catches the eyes of women wherever he goes (see “Stalkers”). To the fans, he's a sex symbol, a sort of Martian Marilyn Monroe (his breathy voice kinda goes along with that, though Throttle was never involved with any U.S. President—that we know of).

Of course, Throttle does have one minor physical problem—-he's blind. Well, some of the time, anyway. You see, during the Battle of Brimstone in the middle of the Plutarkian War, Throttle and his bros were struck by a powerful missile. Although they all survived, the explosion took Modo’s right arm, Vinnie’s face....and Throttle’s eyes (seen hemorrhaging out at the beginning of “Once Upon A Time On Mars Part Two” (for some reason, this wasn’t seen in “Once Upon A Time On Mars Part One”, when it actually took place. Damned censors)). The Biker Mice, Stoker, and a bunch of extras were taken back to Dr. Karbunkle’s lab in Stilton’s castle, where the mad doctor proceeded to replace Throttle’s eyes with a pair of bionic ones. Apparently, however, the bad doctor’s work left something to be desired: the eyes failed to work, and apparently are still rather unpredictable. Those famous glasses. To that end, Throttle is forced to constantly wear his mirrorshades (Stoker’s field-specs, a gift at the end of “Once Upon a Time On Mars Part Three”) or his helmet. It is assumed that, on occasion, the eyes do work. However, given the fact that Throttle rarely takes his glasses off, it’s safe to say these times are few and far between.

Or maybe he just really likes the glasses.

Carbine, the love of Throttle's life...even if they DO happen to be on two different planets. So what about Throttle's love life? Surely a guy so admired by the ladies has had a string of romances? Well, that's probably true, but we only know about one. Throttle's heart belongs to Carbine, the former Martian Army General and current leader of the Freedom Fighters. To say their affair has been passionate is probably an understatement, given the sensuality of both characters. However, their love has met with one minor obstacle--he’s on Earth, she’s on Mars. Thirty-million miles difference. It’s the ultimate long-distance relationship. Even a phone call is a tricky thing. You don’t even wanna know how much it would cost, even with 10-10-321. And there’s a definite trust issue. Just before the Biker Mice tried to return to Mars recently (“Back to Mars” trilogy), Napoleon Brie, Lawrence Limburger’s archrival residing in Detroit, broadcast a phony film which implied that the Biker Mice were in Limburger’s employ. Obviously, it was a lie. Carbine, however, believed it, a fact which riled Throttle to no end. It was one of the few times when fans of the series saw him genuinely mad. Not just annoyed by a supervillain or Limburger, but really, seriously pissed.

Even though the Biker Mice were able to save Mars on that occasion and prove that they were not, in fact, working for Limburger, some of the animosity remained between Throttle and Carbine. Although they both care very much for each other, there is friction between them. Carbine, because of her position as leader of the Freedom Fighters, has to be professional around those under her command, which leaves little time for romance. One of the key points on which they are separate is how the Freedom Fighters are run. Throttle supports the loose, unstructured policy implemented by Stoker, while Carbine, ever the professional soldier, has created a more ordered, Army-like resistance. They're both also extremely devoted to their work, and put each other second. Whether their relationship can last with so much distance between them, physically and mentally, is unknown.

Although Throttle is proficient with most kinds of weaponry, particularly the laser pistol he wears on his hip, his signature pieces are his Nuke Knucks, a trio of small ovals on his right hand’s fingerless glove which, when turned on with a single swat, give Throttle’s already strong punches amazing force. On occasion, they can also be used to fire off short bursts of energy (I honestly can’t remember the episode, but I know I saw it).
