Hurricane Juan hits Nova Scotia!

Halifax and surrounding areas as far as Truro felt the effects of Hurricane Juan. Sunday night, knowing a storm was about to hit us, I was still on my computer, until I seen the power flicker. Anticipating a power failure, as they are quite common here, I shut down my computer and anything else I deemed wasn't required. Well, it wasn't 30 minutes and I was looking out my windows watching 30 to 40 foot oak trees bending like they were made of rubber, in my side yard. I, like so many others here in Halifax, have heard so many warnings in the past from the weather man about storms etc. that we were not really prepared for the power of the hurricane that hit us. I was quite fortunate as I had no damage to my home, but my neighbours were not as fortunate. All my neighbours had trees fallen into buildings on their property and even worse a couple had their power lines knocked down. Trees were everywhere the next morning, blocking roads and knocking down power all over the city. I couldn't even get to work that day, with so many roads blocked and was relieved to hear the radio say I didn't have to go in. Turned around and headed home, then decided to help my neighbours. I spent about 5 hrs cutting trees in neighbours yards until my strength was gone. I was lucky to have so much camp equipment, hot meals and hot tea were my blessings. Not to mention lights for at night. We were 3 days without power in my neighbourhood and the neighbours with lines down are still without power. I ran an extension cord over to my closest neighbour, at least she can have a light at night. Well, it has been quite an experience, to say the least, but it did bring neighbours closer together. It was good to see people helping one another. Any way I took a few pictures of the tree's on my property, hope you enjoy them.
