New Zealand Fire Service Response
Codes
The New Zealand Fire Service uses response
codes, called "K" codes, to cut down on unnecessary radio traffic,
thus reducing congestion on the airwaves. Below are the codes and their
meanings
MOBILISING MESSAGES
- K1 ----Appliance Responding
- K2 ----In Attendance (used by all appliances with the exception of the first arriving
appliance)
- K55 -- In Attendance, Non fire, or special service (used by first arriving appliance)
- K66 --In Attendance, Non property fire, or scrub fire (used by first arriving appliance)
- K77 --In Attendance, Nothing showing (used by first arriving appliance)
- K88 --In Attendance, Property fire, apparently small (used by first arriving appliance)
- K99 --In Attendance, Property fire, well involved (used by first arriving appliance)
AVAILABILITY MESSAGES
- K3 --- Available on radio, outside normal turnout area (K code is followed by the district number the
appliance is currently in, ie "K3-47", spoken as "Kay three
forty seven")
- K4 ---Available on radio, inside normal turnout area
- K5 ---Available for further call
- K6 ---Available on pager (CFO's, Fire safety,etc)
- K7 ---Appliance on normal station
- K8 ---At residence (CFO's, Fire safety, etc)
- K9 ---Off radio - state location
ASSISTANCE MESSAGES
- K11 --Other emergency services required (state Police, ambulance etc)
- K11-1 Police required, confidential
- K19 --Refreshments/Canteen required
APPLIANCE MOVEMENTS
- K22 --Is your appliance available for a further call? (used by control room)
- K22-1 Appliance is available for further call
- K22-2 Have you any appliances available for further calls (used by control room)
- K25 -- Proceed to, and stand by at....(location) (used by control
room)
- K25-1 Appliance standing by, awaiting instructions at....(location)
- K26 --Appliance will be engaged at incident for....(time)
- K26-1 Appliance still engaged, no further developments
- K28 -- Appliance is to return to normal station
- K28-1 Cancel further responding appliances
RADIO PROCEDURE
- K31 --Request permission to go off radio (fires and standbys)
- K32 --Radio test, how do you receive?
- K33 --Radio test received satisfactorily
- K34 --Repeat your message
- K35 --Verify address of call
- K35-1 Request map reference
- K36 --Contact control room by phone
- K38 --Associate officer to incident (state incident address)
- K39 --Retransmit your current status (msu or verbal)
FIRE GROUND COMMAND
- K41 --Fatality (indicate number with suffix)
- K42 --Incident secure (haz subs) or all personal accounted for
- K43 --All available manpower fully utilised
- K44 --Command or control point established (Oic and location)
- K45 --Command responsibility changed (state name)
- K46-1 Stop message-false alarm-good intent
- K46-2 Stop message-false alarm-accidental
- K46-3 Stop message-false alarm-defective apparatus
- K46-4 Stop message-false alarm-malicious
- K46-5 Stop message-false alarm-alarm agent in attendance
- K46-6 Stop message-false alarm-nothing showing on alarm panel
TRIAL EVACUATION
- K51 --Trial evacuation to be carried out at ... (state location)
- K52 --(location).. was a 111 call received from the premises?
- K53 --(location).. evacuation successful
