Inuyasha ‹‹ Info

Inuyasha follows the story of a fifteen year old school girl in the year 1996 in modern Tokyo by the name of Higurashi Kagome.
Kagome lives with her mother, grandfather and younger brother that live in an old shrine that their family took care of for generations.
While there is supposed to be much history within the temple itself, Kagome really could care less about history as most young teenagers do.
Her life is turned upside down one day when a centipede youkai (monster) from within the sealed well at her temple pulls her through the well into another time.

Kagome emerges from the well to find that she’s been transported back in time to the medieval days of Japan during the Sengoku Jidai
(age of Warring States during Muromachi period from around 1467-1568A.D. where powerful warlords fought battles between themselves for land and power).

Kagome meets up with an old priestess by the name of Kaede who is the village elder for a small outset village. Because of her appearance she is thought to be a spy from another country,
but upon closer inspection, Kaede reveals the fact that Kagome is almost an exact copy of her older sister, Kikyou, who died over fifty years ago after having sealed a dog-demon
that was trying to steal the mysterious jewel, the Shikon no Tama (Jewel of Four Souls). After her death, Kikyou had herself cremated along with the jewel and the Shikon jewel
disappeared from that age forever.

Kagome doesn’t believe this herself till she is wounded in battle by the centipede youkai and the jewel strangely comes out of her body!
Kaede holds this as definite proof that Kagome is in fact, Kikyou’s reincarnation and that she’s destined to protect the Shikon no Tama from youkai that wish to seek it for its powers.

Kagome encounters the demon that Kikyou sealed all those years ago and unleashes his seal (an arrow that Kikyou aimed at his heart). He comes back to life with a vengance trying to kill Kagome
since he thinks that she is Kikyou. In order to protect Kagome and keep the demon under control, Kaede uses her sorcery to place a strand of rosary beads on his neck binding him to Kagome with a single word
that sends him face first into the ground no matter how powerful he is… “sit”. We learn that this demon’s name is Inuyasha and he’s the half-breed son of the great Inuyoukai (Dog Demon) of the west and a human
mother making him inferior (in other full demon’s eyes) and to himself which is why he was after the jewel in the first place. Because of his ancestry, he has the powers of a demon as well as most of the outward
appearance that goes along with it including fangs, cat-like eyes, white hair, and dog ears.

By accident, the jewel is shattered and Kaede tells them that they must go across Japan and search for the jewel together. Kagome and Inuyasha reluctantly team up bickering at each other nonstop
the whole journey when they are teamed up with Shippou (a young orphaned fox demon), Miroku (a perverted monk), and Sango (a youkai exterminator).

It seems there is more between Inuyasha and the long since dead Kikyou and later we learn that they were in love and Inuyasha had originally planned to use the jewel to become a human for her,
which he never got around to thanks to Naruku who fell in love with Kikyou and wanted it to appear that they betrayed each other. Because of this, Kikyou was seriously wounded and in her anger,
she shot Inuyasha with an arrow that sealed him to a tree for fifty years (which he spent in suspended animation since he didn’t get any older). A love triangle forms when Inuyasha starts to see Kagome
as not just Kikyou’s reincarnation, but a whole new person. He becomes fiercely protective of her even though he’ll never admit it.
