Turk getting his TLC...

Turk enjoying his job...
|
Turk is
out of Westwind Abernaki Chief MH (see Westwind site for more
information on "Abe" http://www.westwindchesap eakes.com/abe.html)
and Flatland's Mega Blizzard. His pedigree goes back to the old
Delaware lines (which were all but lost) through a frozen semen
breeding that produced is his sire, "Abe".
The best way to describe Turk is "Driven". He redefines hunting and
retrieving when it comes to desire. Turk is incredibly fast and
athletic. His leaping ability is simply unbelievable. All of my
Chessies are relentless when it comes to retrieving, but none more
than Turk. When it comes to persistence he doesn't know the meaning
of the word quit. He simply will not give up on finding a bird. He
is so bold to cover that I constantly worry that he will injure
himself. He goes airborne more often than not, and not just into
the water. I've seen him go airborne after a downed bird off of a
10 foot ditch bank into a cattail slough. He is absolutely obsessed
with retrieving.
Physically, Turk is just a gorgeous animal. He weighed 80 pounds
at one year of age. He will probably mature in the 90-95 pound
range. He is deadgrass in color and has an exceptionally dense
coat. Pound for pound he is one of the strongest dogs I've ever
seen. He's very muscular through the neck and shoulders (he'll pick
up a fence post and carry it around just for fun!). He has his hip
and eye certifications, as do all of our dogs. He is in the 90th
percentile according to the Pennhip Evaluation that was done. That's
as good as it gets. Placing in the 90th percentile means that no
dogs in the breed have been evaluated that have better hips.
As driven as Turk is when it comes to hunting and retrieving, he's a
very easy going, gentle dog when not at work. I don't think he has
a mean bone in his body. He gets along extremely well with my other
dogs (both male and female). Like many Chessies, he can be a little
stubborn at times. He likes doing things his way. Typical of many
Chessies, he's been somewhat slow to develop. That's just how
Chessies are… He is an extremely well bred dog and it shows. It
goes without saying that Turk is one of the finest Chessies we've
seen in a long time. We love him to death!!!
