| Match Report : Last year's fixture against the Utopers was a high-scoring affair and hence much was expected from the Londoners visit on Sunday. In stark contrast to 2004, the game was one-sided with Stonor dominating with both ball and bat throughout the afternoon. Stonor's Andy Pennell maintained a consistent line and length during his accurate bowling spell and he was justly rewarded with his first five wicket haul for the club. Nigel Allsop took the gloves and was again solid behind the stumps, taking two good catches. At 5 for 3, the visitors were in deep trouble and never fully recovered despite a gutsy knock of 31 from D Adams. Neil Brown, John Powell and Ashley Agar's seam bowling helped to stifle any chance of the Utopers accelerating the scoring rate. Kallman and McCrone were successful in picking off any lose deliveries in a brief revival, but the total of 95 was never going to be enough on a drying Stonor track. In reply John Powell sought to attack the bowling from the start, hitting Coggan's first over for 16, but fell short of a well-deserved half century when pulling a ball to short midwicket. The Utopers rotated the bowling in search of inspiration, but didn't really have enough of a total to play with and it took Stonor under 18 overs to reach the target. (Report : Olly Nicholson) |
