SIB: Our Second Year Report
(A message from one of the webmasters)
Back
Well people, it's been two years since I sat at the computer and created this web site - then containing only a small assortment of pictures, some Justin quotes, four funny Powerpoint presentations, Graham's "The Fool" audio files and some scan-ins of our much-graffitied schoolbooks. Now look where we are!
Much has happened in the year since I last wrote our annual SIB report. 2002 saw many new additions specific to the site. From remixes of songs such as Funky Town and The Launch to the photos of Rodger and Jarred doing burnouts down the dump, there was quite a lot of variety. Camping trips, road trips and parties contributed greatly to this year's collection, as did the uncovering of many old memories and the advent of new sections such as the K Files and the SIB Poll. And as far as promotion goes, we had "Stop It Boys" stickers made up for our cars, we hung "Stop It Boys" banners from a bridge, and Chris even made up his own "Stop It Boys" shirt.
For most of us, last year was our first year out of school. Some people began university studies, some found apprenticeships or full-time work, some are still looking, some are not looking and sitting on there arses, some moved away from Townsville altogether and met new people, some moved into Townsville and met us, some got together, some got together and broke up, some got licenses, some bought cars, some lost lisences, some crashed cars, some moved out of home, and some (or should I say, one) didn't even know who Bill Gates was until about three months ago!
With all this happening, it is good to see that the majority of us who made part of the original Stop It Boys are all still friends and keeping in touch. It's also good to see that people who thought SIB died ages ago have tuned back in over the past couple of months. And it's even better to see that the new people we have met over the year from various other schools and towns (you all know who you are!) have shown their support and are active in keeping our website alive. Please feel free to refer to yourselves as true Stop It Boys. Or Girls.
I don't know what other people think, but I certainly say that this site is growing more and more significant by the day. We do, however, encounter people from time to time that question why we even bother to maintain a site like this and whinge that we are immature. If that's your impression then you can get stuffed! Because when you think about it, SIB not only provides entertainment to those who enjoy reading about our antics, but it also guarantees that we will never forget about our youth and teenage years - the time of our lives when we are at our prime, when we have the most fun, and are the best looking that we'll ever be. So in 10, 20, even 50 years time when we're senile and geriatric, we can refer to this good old-fashioned HTML to show our grandkids exactly how tough (but fun) life was when we were kids.
The next year for Stop It Boys? So long as I have a computer, I for one will still ensure that SIB receives an update whenever something worthwhile takes place. I also have plans to release the SIB website on CD - that way you don't have to be online to view the site and you won't have to wait for content to download. If I end up doing this, I also have a heap of bonus stuff to put on the CD as well - to name a few - the full 18 minutes of the prank phone calls, the full 6 minutes of the Old Protester Guy, good quality (128 kbps) versions of many of our audio files, and good quality bitmap files of photos instead of compressed JPGs. Surely a CD for everyone to have in their collection.
Due to most of us having work or uni commitments, it is likely that things at SIB may slow down a bit from previous times. But that is not to say that we won't be continuing what we do. Throughout the year we will surely take part in as many hilarious and memorable events as we did last year, all of which will be captured by our trusty cameras and tape recorders. It'll just be a little more difficult to find the time to put it all online!
Anyway, happy 2nd birthday to Stop It Boys! Be sure to catch the next installment of the SIB Yearly Report to be posted on the 17th of February, 2004. In the words of Chris, PEACE OUT! And to sum it all up, I'll quote what I wrote to finish off our first year report:
"In any case, we'll do all we can to retain our space on the Web because if I don't say so myself, we surely have the best public archive of the "teenage life" genre than any other group around the world. We fucking rule!"
STOP IT BOYS!
