Townsville Traffic Tips
Back

We all hate having to stop at a red light.  This section of Stop It Boys has been put up in order to spread the word about certain intersections in Townsville where you can legally (I think) cut through, regardless of the colour of the light.   There are only four listed here at the moment, so if you can think of any more avoidable lights then please let us know.

Flinders Street / Denham Street intersection

Travelling towards the mall down Flinders Street East with the intention of turning left onto Denham Street.

You can avoid the set of lights by turning into the carpark on the left hand side of Flinders Street.  Depending on the amount of traffic (consisting of both cars and drunks) in the carpark, you should be able to manoeuvre yourself onto the one-way Denham Lane, as shown in the diagram.

Heatleys Parade / Bundock Street intersection

Travelling from Pallarenda towards the Bundock Street intersection with the intention of turning left towards the city.

This set of lights can easily be avoided by turning into the little car park designated for the shops on the corner.  There is an entrance directly onto the Bundock Street from here.

Ross River Road / Nathan Street intersection

stockland_corner.jpg (33732 bytes)

Travelling West down Ross River Road with the intention of turning left at Nathan Street.

Providing there is not a long line of cars in front of you waiting to turn at the lights, you can turn into Mobil and make your way straight out onto Nathan Street.

Ross River Road / Elizabeth Street intersection

stockland_corner_2.jpg (33716 bytes)

Travelling West down Ross River Road with the intention of turning left at Elizabeth Street.

There is a Westpac Bank on this corner directly opposite Stockland.   From Ross River Road, turn into the Westpac car park and make your way around the corner onto Elizabeth Street.  Beware of the gateway that stops people from doing this - only a small car will be able to get through.
