Chapter Thirteen

Whitney: I watched J leave, open mouthed. What had just happened in such a short period of time? I looked back at Scott who was holding my hands still. I realized I was gripping them and lightened my hold. I looked over at Nikki who stood next to Abs. Sean and Ritchie stood in he middle of all this, speechless. A sort of awkward feeling hung over the room.Wasn't anyone going to do anything? No one said a word or moved for that matter. I dropped Scotts hands and looked at him apologetically. I stood, wiped my hands on my jeans and walked out the door. Where would I find him? He could be just about anywhere. I walked down the street, not knowing where I was headed. I reached a nearby park and walked in. I spotted J sitting on one of the benches not too deep into the park. I touched the swing chains as I passed them, making them sway back and forth. I approached J and stopped.
"This seat taken?" I asked. His blue eyes looked up and he shook his head slightly. I sat next to him, not knowing what to say. I tucked my hands under my legs.
"You a little chilly?" J asked, pointing to the goosebumps on my arms.
"I'll live," I replied. "How's the lip?" J reached up and gently touched it.
"I'll live," he smiled a bit.
"Isn't your girlfriend going to wonder what happened to you?" I asked, trying to make conversation. Maybe not going in the right direction, but it was conversation.
"She'll just figure I went out for a drink with the lads or something," J shrugged. "Otherwise she'll be ringing me up on my mobile." I nodded, looking down.

J: Why had she come after me? I wasn't anything to her. She had her Scott. She had the love and compassion I knew she wanted and needed, none the less. He was closer to her age than I am , anyways. It just made me think, what kind of girl is this? One who comes after me when no one else did? Not even one of the lads, you know, my best mates? I didn't know. I looked at her. She looked cold in her blue jeans and sleeveless shirt. I wanted to wrap my arms around her and warm her up, but I couldn't do that. I had to think of Chris. Chris was my girl, not Whitney.
"I have to be getting back," she suddenly said, looking back up at me. "I just wanted to see if you were alright." I nodded.
"Thanks," I quietly responded. She searched my eyes. For what, I don't know. An answer maybe. I slowly began to lean in, intending a kiss. It just seemed right to me. I got about half way there when she stopped me.
"I'm sorry, J," she replied, eyes downcast. "I couldn't do it to Scott. I'll...see you in the morning." I watched as she got up and walked away, touching the swings as she strode by, as if a good luck charm. I was falling for her. Everything about her was great to me. Faithful. Loving. Caring. Passionate. But she belonged to Scott. And I had Chris. How could I make things work for me? Would I want to do that?
