Chapter Eight

Suprisingly, that one date had led to many more. Almost a month had passed and we were inseperable. I went out with Abs almost every night, always to secretive places, though. He never told me why. I still had this feeling deep inside of me I knew him from somewhere. I was just hoping it didn't turn out he was my long lost brother or something. That would just be...gross.
One night after a night out under the stars he brought me home. We stopped by our regular spot on the porch and kissed under the moonlight. "I could do this every night of my life and be happy," Abs said once we let go. I smiled at him.
"So could I," I told him. I checked my watch. "I have to be getting back." I sighed.
"Okay, but one more," he said, wrapping his arms around me.
   "Make it quick," I laughed.
Five minutes later I walked in the beach house. Everyone was rushing around. "What's this?" I managed to yell over the commotion. I stopped Jordan on his way past me.
"Pack your things, Whitney," Jordan said.
"What? Why? We have another month here!" I exclaimed. I started moving toward the back of the house that held the few possesions that we managed to collect over the past month or so here. Nikki was furiously searching for something under the bed. "Nikki! No one is telling me why we have to pack up and get out of here at.." I looked up at the clock on the wall. "Twelve thirty at night?" She climbed out from half way under the bed and shoved the hair that had falled on her face back.
"They haven't told you?" she asked, getting up.
   "No!" I said.
"Johnny's getting busted. Drug charge," she explained, moving around the room, stuffing things in her pockets.
"What? How could this happen?" I wondered aloud. I sat on the bed. Too many things were happening at once.
"No, no, can't sit down now, Whit," Nikki said, grabbing my arm and pulling me up. I walked out with her through the hallway and into the living room. Holly, Ayanna, and Emily stood there, looking ready. Nik let go of my arm and I headed back toward the kitchen. Johnny sat on the kitchen table looking half high.
"Johnny!" I said. "How could you do this?" He looked up at me, his eyes bloodshot. "Geeze! Thanks a lot. We're going back out there and it's all because of you." I headed back toward the front as I heard Johnny mumble.
"My stash man...their gonna take my stash..." I rolled my eyes. I stopped back in the living room with the other girls.
"Its not his fault, Whitney," Emily quietly said.
"The hell it isn't!" I exclaimed. "We finally get a place to live for two whole months, good food, and some money. Then he blows it away for a bagful of coke. Great. What am I supposed to do about Abs, huh? Oh, sorry, Abs, don't meet me at the beach house anymore, please come and pick me up in your designer labels at the corner of alleyways and trashy living. And you're saying it's not his fault? You need to look around you, Emily. Stop sticking up for your boyfriend, his friends fell through this time." I finally finished, out of breath and amazed at what I had just spat out at the only family I had right now. I looked at them, their eyes all downcast. Jordan had made his way into the room and was staring straight at me. I shook my head and walked out the beach house door, slamming it behind me. In the distance I could hear the faint sound of police sirens.
