Chapter Nine

I opened my cold eyes and wiped at them to make the small frost on my eyelashes fall off. I looked around me at the cave, the walls becoming too familiar. This was our fifth day out here, and we were slowly breaking down. Scott's feet were still bothering him and I was tired of the constant cold. I stood up, my knees cracking. I was suprised I didnt have frostbite as Scott did. Scott remained seated. He could no longer stand so it was up to me to do the moving around. I moved to the entrance of the cave and looked out. I saw something out of the corner of my eye as I looked over the hill. I gasped.
"What?" Scott asked, anxiously. I waved my arm at him, still looking out the entrance.
"I gotta go check something out, Scott," I said. I started to walk.
"Lemme come!" He yelled after me.
"Ha ha, good one Scott," I laughed.
"Shut up," he called after me. I stepped out into the mountain and moved slowly toward what I saw. I gasped as I realized it was what I thought.
I ran back up and into the cave. "Scott!" I exclaimed as I got there.
   "What?!" he asked, eyes bright.
"I found our car," I told him. He breathed and sat back against the cool walls.
"Oh," he said, a hint of dissapointment in his voice.
"I know," I said, kneeling next to him. "it wasn't what you hoped, but it means the snow is melting some. Maybe it's a good sign."
"That sounds just like you," Scott smiled. "Always thinking of the positive." I sat now, my legs aching from kneeling.
"Either that, or we'll die slowly of starvation and frostbite and extreme coldness."
"That's nice," Scott said, looking at me. I grinned at him. "Plus, coldness isn't a word."
"How would you know?" I laughed. His mouth hung open.
"That hurts," he said. He pointed to his chest. "It hurts here."
"Are you sure it doesn't hurt
here?" I asked, smacking his foot lightly.
"Yeah, it hurts there too," Scott strained to say. I laughed. "When we get out of here, I'm going to get you back so bad."
"I'm sure you will, Scott, I'm sure you will," I replied.
