Chapter Nine

I slipped on the long, elegant black dress and checked my make up in the mirror. So far so good. The limo would be here in about ten minutes and I was putting on the finishing touched. I grabbed my black strappy sandals from the closter and headed out to the living room. I sat on the couch, careful not to step on my dress. I slipped on the sandals and leaned back on the couch. I looked around the living room. I liked living here, it was very cozy and homey for me. But Guatamala, that's going to be a blast.
I spotted my black lap top sitting closed on the coffee table. I sat up and reached for it, pulling it toward me. I flipped it open and opened my internet browser. When it connected I went back to Cherished Hearts, wondering if the girl had updated. The main page was the same but in the site was totally different. The background was black with stars. The font was white. The picture of me and Ritchie walking down the sidewalk was on there. I read the new message to the world
"Hi all! I was just exstatic when I heard the news that Whitney and Ritchie might be getting back together! It's just rumoured, but CH will keep you updated."
The doorbell rang just as I read the last line. I looked up and then shut my laptop. I got up, smoothed out my dress and answered the door. There stood my driver Tom. "Nice hat," I smirked, speaking of the ridiculously goofy black hat he was wearing.
"It's a special occasion, innit?" he asked as I joined him on the porch.
"Tom, we've been to a million movie premiers. You aren't going soft on me now are you?" I asked as we began to walk down the steps.
"No, but I've heard that we are picking up a certain Mr. Neville," he said as he opened the door for me. I felt myself starting to blush. "I didn't believe it when I read that you two were together again."
"We're not technically together. We're going together but we're not together," I explained, carefully climbing in the back of the limo. Tom just nodded and shut the door. Moment later we were off. I just gazed out the tinted windows as we drove to Ritchie's. The limo slowed to a stop in front of his place. Tom got out and met Ritchie at his door. Knots formed in my stomach as I saw Ritchie coming toward the limo looking fantastic in his back suit and tie. Tom opened the door and in stepped Ritchie. I smiled to him.
"Hey," he breathed as he sat next to me.
"Hi," I replied. "You look really good." He looked down at his suit. I felt the limo start going again.
"Oh, thanks, I don't think I have worn this since the last time we went to one of these things," I laughed a bit. "You look...wow."
"I take 'wow' is a good thing?" I asked. He nodded.
"Wow is always a good thing," he whispered, moving closer to me. He leaned in and I did too. Before we could kiss, the limo came to an sbrupt stop, causing us to lurch forward and bump heads. We both started laughing as we brought a hand up to the collision stop.
"We're here!" Tom yelled from the front. I checked my watch. Five minutes late, right on time. Tom opened the door and I looked to Ritchie.
"I'll go first," I told him. He nodded in agreement. I ducked out of the limo and stepped out onto the red carpet. The photograps and flashes started simultaneously. I stepped out a few steps and smiled. Behind me, Ritchie stepped out of the limo. This sent photographers and reporters into hysterics. Ritchie joined me by my side, placing a hand on my back.
"Ritchie! Ritchie!" I heard a voice yell. He broke away from me and went to talk to one of the reporters. I stood facing one of the sides, smiling broadly for the photograps. I glanced over my shoulder to Ritchie. He was shaking his head and glancing back over to me. He's denying that we we're together, I thought to myself. My stomach sunk a bit. A moment later he joined me again. We advanced more down the carpet.
"Whitney! Ritchie! A few questions?" a reporter yalled. I nodded and we walked to her. "Tell us, are you two together again?" I looked to Ritchie. He raised his eyebrows as if to ask,
are we? I had been waiting for this moment. I thought of the past. This woman standing in front of me had been in a buisness that had pulled us apart. Could we do it again?
"Yes," I finally replied. I looked back to Ritchie, the look on his face a little suprised. I took Ritchie's hand and entertwined our fingers together. I looked back to the reporter. "Yes, we are."
