Chapter Fifteen

Abs: I paced around nervously backstage. This was horrible. Five minutes until we went on stage and Whitney wasn't here. Sure, we got a backup dancer but even she wasn't sticking her moves. I had no doubt that we would do fine, I was just worried about her. I stopped and sat. I couldn't keep pacing I was going to make myself dizzy. I heard the crowd outside, all the fans screaming and chanting "We want Five, We want Five" over and over again. I wasnted to give a perfect show. How could we give a perfect show with bad dancing? I rubbed my temples with my fingers, eyes shut, trying to fix everything.
"Mate, you alright?" the ever-so-familiar voice of Scott filled the air. I opened my eyes and looked up at Scott and Teresa, looking down at me with concern on their faces. Teresa was dressed in the dancers costume, ripped sleeveless t-shirts, baggy cargo pants, and loads and loads of glitter.
"I'm just worried, that's all," I explained. Scott sat on the peice of set next to me.
"First night jitters? Understandable," he nodded.
"No, mate," I shook my head. "I'm worried about the dancers."
   "Hey!" Teresa projected.
"Not you," I told her. She relaxed. "I mean I'm worried cos Whitney isn't here and I'm not so sure my new rent-a-dancer is going to be so hot at this."
"Well if she messes up its not your fault," Scott said.
"Yeah but they don't know that," I said, moitioning toward the stage door. I shook my head.
"Lads, 2 minutes til show time," Rob said as he passed.
"We better get going," Scott said, getting up. I groaned as I forced myself to stand again. Scott, Teresa, and I all headed through the stage door and made our way to the group of dancers waiting to go on. I hooked up my vest and nervously tugged the bottom of it. Stephanie, the replacement dancer grinned at me and gave me the thumbs up. I gave her a fake smile in return.
"Alright, lads, ready to go?" Rob asked. Nods and Yeah!'s passed through the area. I just went along with everyone and we proceded through the tiny hall. We started up the steps as we heard the crowd screaming louder. We knew the lights had gone down and spotlights started up. Rob gave the nod of approval. Here we go.
"WAIT WAIT WAIT!" I heard a voice behind me yell. We all spun around Whitney came jogging up. I gave her a look.
"What, you think I'd actually let you go on with...her? No offense," she said to her.
"None taken," Stephanie said, coming off the stage. I just watched Whitney. I embraced her in a tight hug.
"Hey, now, we hae a show to go on," she laughed.
   "Thank you," I smiled.
"For what?" she asked, putting in her ear peice and following the rest of the lads up the stairs.
   "Everything," I said, following her.
"Anytime, Abs, Anytime," she said, as we stepped out on stage. The lights went down, the music started up. Whitney winked at me and smiled and I knew. I just knew...everything was going to be okay.
