Chapter Five

Whitney: The book I had grabbed and forced myself into reading wasn't half bad. Two hours had passed and I was half way through it when I realized the bus had stopped. Across from me, Scott slept, his magazine now laid across his stomach. I smiled a bit, wondering was he was dreaming. Then again, maybe I didn't want to go. Sean came to the doorway and stopped. "Hey, we're gonna get some dinner, you guys coming?" he asked. I nodded.
"Yeah, we'll be out in a minute," I told him as I marked my place in my book and set it down on the table. I stretched up and yawned, taking a look out the window. Nikki, Abs, Ritchie, J, John, and Sean were out there talking. I moved over to where Scott was and sat next to him. I pulled the mag off his stomach and set it beside me. "Scooooooot," I said in a quiet voice. His head moved a little bit, but he didn't wake up. "Scooooooot," I said again, moving a little bit closer to him. His eyes fluttered, but still, nothing. "Scott," I ended in a whisper, closer than before to him. He opened his eyes and realized how close I was to him. My heart pounded a bit. He leaned forward and closed his eyes. I leaned toward him as well. I stopped right before we kissed. I pulled back. Scott sighed deeply. "I want to, Scott," I said to him. "I want to so bad, but I can't. Not now."
"I know," he said. "It just felt right." I nodded. "Things aren't going to be weird between us now, are they?"
"No," I shook my head. "Things'll be fine. Well...considering the circumstances..." I trailed off.
"J?" he asked, finishing for me.
"Yeah," I said. "But just...don't tell anyone about what happened...or almost happened for that fact."
   "Right," he replied.
"I'm gonna head out, you come out in a minute or so...okay?" I said, getting up. He nodded and I walked out of the bus.

Nikki: We were all standing outside. My arms were crossed in front of me. "Where's Whitney and Scott? I wondered aloud. I squinted my eyes and tried to see through the bus windows but with no luck. No one dared to make a snide remark considering J was standing relatively close to me and was glaring at the bus door. Whitney finally walked out, acting as if nothing had happened. Maybe nothing had. J walked toward her and stopped her about 15 feet away from the rest of the group. I watched them, straining to hear. Whitney was saying something with her arms open in front of her. J was responding in a more hushed tone, occasionally putting his hand on her shoulder or tucking a peice of hair behind her ears. Whitney just looked agitated.
Scott came bounding out of the bus, yawning and stretching his arms above his head. He must have fallen asleep with all that excessive magazine reading. He walked past Whitney and J's conversation, eyeing Whitney as he passed. I sighed. Was this drama ever going to end? I noticed I was the only one watching this unfold in front of us as the lads were talking about something or other. Scott came over and joined me, not looking as directly at them as I was. "What were they talking about?" I asked him.
"All I caught was something about kids," Scott said, his voice a little shaky. Kids? I thought to myself. I took a deep breath. Was Whitney pregnant?
