Ha, I like this background no matter what you say,

Hey all, whats up? I haven't done a journal entry since...Uhh I dunno, but I'm doing one now and that's all that matters, right? So, anyways, this has been a long and busy weekend that all started Friday night, want to hear about it? Alright then, glad you asked.
Friday after school we had our first night of a debate tournament at Ladue Middle School. This school is flippin HUGE! Me, Andie, Ashley Grueter, and Lindsey Gordon all rode together to the school. We got a big kick out of the sign at the front of the school as we were going in that broadly stated the school was "Erected in 1914" or some date like that. Ahh we laughed hard and good about that one. So, anyways, it was a bit hectic at first, this being me and Amanda's first debate tournament ever. But it was a novice tourn. so we weren't incredibly worried.
At...4 I think we found the library and drew for Duet Improv which was one of our categories. (Our other one was policy debate but I'll get to that soon enough) So our scene we picked was "Stop, Drop, and Roll." We had this big ole long scene where my lef caught on fire from a cigarette but we couldn't remember the three words Stop Drop and Roll. It was pretty funny. After that we had about 15 minutes to spare so we just walked around then headed to our second drawing where we got "I want you to have this" as our opening line to our second improv scene. (BTW, after we pick, we get 30 minutes to come up with a scene.) The scene was I was giving my necklace to Andie b/c I had caught my boyfriend with another girl and poured soup all over hid head as a punishment...ahh good stuff.
After Improv we had a little heart-attack moment where we thought we were 5 minutes late for Policy Debate (aka team debate) but then figured out we had an hour to spare cos we read the clock wrong. So, we ate dinner (pizza) and wrote up some of our negative case. Then our first policy debate came. It went HORRIBLE. Luckily, we had 2 of the nicest people ever that we were going against and we got advice from our judge and they talked to us afterwards so it was a good time. Our second debate luckily went better but it turns our we lost that one as well. But, I got 1st place debater in that debate out of us 4 and Ashley said thats really good, so, YAY! And that was the end of the night, ending around 10:30 or so.
The next morning I had to get up PAINFULLY early at 6 AM with about 6 hours of sleep in me, its not the funnest thing in the world. When we arrived at the school we had a quick laugha bout the erected sign again then headed in. Amanda and I headed to the library right away to draw for round 3 of inprov. This one was location and we got "Stuck in Traffic". Ugh, we were both so wrung out from the night before and lack of sleep that we weren't in the mood to doing it and had no good ideas so our preformance ended up being really crappy and to top it all off instead of just a time keeper and a judge in the room, it was filled with spectators. It was awful.
We had about 45 minutes to spare before going to round 3 of debate so we sat in the cafeteria and listened to music and goofed around. When we did finally go to our room, we got a bit lost cos they had a goofy hallway but we finally found it. The people we were against were super nice, we had some time to talk to them about just stuff, they had 2 "spectators" with them, just friends from their school. One guy was Ian who Amanda and I used as our time keeper for our 4th round of debate and we talked to him for over an hour afterwards, he was sooo nice and he looks like someone famous and I've yet to place who. It'll drive me crazy. Anyways, we debated and unfortunately lost, again, but afterwards we stayed after and talked for about a half hour and unfortunately found out we didn't qualify for Imrov finals. Our 4th round of debate was next door after that and it went alright, as I said before, Ian was nice enough to come over and time keep for us since we didn't have one and the dumb judge was going to have us time keep for ourselves, yeah that was going to happen. *Rolls Eyes* The people we debated were nice, but we didn't stay after to talk to them, they just kinda up and left.
So that was it. Our first debate tournament was over with. We lost all 4 rounds of debate and did alright but not as good as expected in improv but had a good time, met a lot of cool people, and had a lot of laughs. Whatta weekend.

Always,
Whitney.
