Gemini's RelationshipsJust as duality is a Geminian theme, so in their relationships, Gemini people seem to be constantly searching for their ‘mythical twin’. One expression of this ‘mythical twin’ idea can be found in the Talmud, the Hebrew commentary on the Bible, where it is written that a soul can become divided, one half being given to a boy, the other to a girl. The two halves spend their lives seeking each other out. And so it is that Geminians appear to be always looking for a soulmate. You will often find them surrounded by large groups of people as though they feel that the more people they meet, the more likely they are to find the one special person to be with. They use their charm and wit to flatter potential lovers and they beguile them with their mercurial minds. They also have a reputation for flirting and falling in and out of love with an ease that leaves other signs gasping. But this is all grist to Gemini’s mill for, paradoxically, it is sometimes said that the typical Gemini will seek out different people to satisfy different needs. Ultimately, though, Gemini is a sign that thrives best in a one-to-one relationship – the right individual seems to make Gemini feel whole, as if it has found the part of itself it was searching for. At the end of the day, perhaps what Gemini was looking for lay within itself all along, but maybe Gemini, like all of us, has a tendency to begin by looking for the answers in other people. With their analytical minds, Gemini people often have strong ideas as to how relationships should be conducted. They consider any problems that may arise, and work out what must be done in everyone’s interest. Many of them also devote a great deal of energy to analysing feelings, rather than simply experiencing them, sometimes being taken aback when they discover that they and their lovers are messy flesh-and-blood creatures with real-life passions. Gemini’s challenge in life is to explore the world of emotions and harness the power of human passion. This aspect of Gemini helps to explain its relationship with other signs, and especially with the three Water signs – Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. In these relationships, Gemini can be fascinated, though sometimes embarrassed, by Water’s public displays of emotion, while Water, for its part, is intrigued by Gemini’s apparently clear head and rational spirit. Gemini’s bright ideas often encourage Cancer to pursue its ambitions, while Gemini is intrigued by Cancer’s emotional depths. Similarly, Gemini can be fascinated, though sometimes intimidated, by Scorpio’s intensity, while Scorpio admires Gemini’s ability to detach itself from its emotions. Gemini and Pisces together make a mutual admiration society for Gemini’s clear head is the perfect complement to Pisces’ dreamy, spiritual imagination. Traditionally, Gemini is compatible with Libra and Aquarius, its fellow Air signs, but the truth is not always so simple. While they often share a common outlook on the world, sometimes the spark necessary for a more vibrant relationship is absent. Gemini appreciates Libra’s social graces, though not its indecision. If they live together, Gemini will be happy to let Libra get on with the task of creating a pleasant home. Relationships between Gemini and Aquarius makes for a wild, creative, adventurous lifestyle, for each encourages the other’s freedom-loving instincts. When two Geminis get together the results can be unpredictable. They fall madly in love, having sensed that they have found a soulmate, but they can just as easily feel deeply ill at ease in the relationship, seeing the other person as a mirror-image of themselves, reflecting back their own insecurities and weaknesses. And since Gemini likes its partner to play the parent, another Gemini may not fit the bill. The three Fire signs – Aries, Leo and Sagittarius – all possessed of glittering energy and enthusiasm, can supply the spark that is sometimes absent between Gemini and Air signs. Yet relationships with Fire can be explosive. Partnerships between Gemini and Aries are based on a common need for constant experimentation – moving home, changing careers, and swapping roles. Gemini and Leo may get on as long as Gemini’s enthusiasm for change coincides with Leo’s desire to have everything its own way. Gemini-Sagittarius relationships, meanwhile, can be sheer magic as each encourages the other’s adventurous and reluctance to be tied down. But if that is all holding them together, the relationship can flare up – then fizzle out. Relationships with Earth signs – Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn – usually bring more stability, although Gemini may find it hard to conform to Earth’s solid, workaday approach to life. Gemini-Taurus partnerships are based on the attraction of opposites, with Gemini providing spark and Taurus the ability to handle the routine responsibilities of everyday life. Gemini and Virgo can enjoy a very close rapport, for both have bright ideas – and Virgo knows how to put them into practice. Gemini and Capricorn may find each other completely mystifying, for Gemini is full of brilliant ideas while Capricorn values practical experience. But if they do manage to establish a middle ground, theirs can be a relationship that lasts a lifetime. But it takes two to tango and Gemini is only part of the equation. Others involved – whether at home, at work or in love – need to know how to handle this mercurial sign. The first quality you need is patience: there is no point complaining about Gemini always being late or taking off at a moment’s notice. And if you have children born with the Sun in Gemini, you may suddenly find they have gone off-course. If so, find out why. Maybe some sudden enthusiasm has prompted them to do the totally unexpected. And if you have friends born under Gemini, remember that it always pays to have an alternative plan ready in case they do not turn up as planned. Learn to enjoy their company today, for they may be gone tomorrow. |
