Here's a concert review of the show they did on Jan. 18, 1998...Well we headed up to Minneapolis about 2 or so and got up there around 4 something and we went to my parents' friends house to grab something to eat... now to the stuff you care about...
we got to the Northrop Memorial Auditorium around 6:30 and we couldn't get to our seats until 6:45...
On the way up to the seats we had to be patted down via the request of Oasis, fun, fun, fun :) Troy and I had never been patted down before.. it was funny because after we got checked, I yelled to Troy, "Thank God they didn't find the guns on us!!" (Well It was pretty funny...) We then proceed to find our seats in the gothic-style auditorium. We made to the entrance of the auditorium and this old dude asked for our tickets and then told us to follow him, and after we reached our row, he put down the seats to our chair and said, "Here you are gentlemen." It was pretty cool because Troy and I had never been ushered to our seats before...
After waiting for a couple minutes we couldn't just sit there so we headed to the souvenior stand... $70 sweatshirts, $35 polo shirts, $27 or $22 t-shirts or $2 penny-sized pins. Troy and I each got a shirt, but he remembered that Kristin wanted him to bring her something back, but he didn't want to spend that much on t-shirts so he got her the crappy little pin, we were laughing at it, cause it was so funny that we came all this way and Kristin wanted something cool and all she got was a pin worth about $.10 (i guess you had to be there)...
Well the opening act last about 45 grueling minutes, they totally sucked!!!! The band's name was Cornershop.. After they got they got the point that we didn't want to hear anymore of their crap, they got off the stage with an obscene gesture...
Finally after 45 minutes of setting up the stage for the band of the evening.... Liam, Noel, Guigsy, Bonehead, and Alan walked on the stage with a standing ovation...All of the sudden *rrraaangn*, Noel comes in with his guitar, distorted to perfection, with the first riff of "Be Here Now" along with Liam crouching under the mic and blaring out the opening lyrics----- AAAAAAA----It was totally kick butt... then came "Stand By Me" which was even better with Noel singing harmony with Liam... Just about this time I smelled smoke, but not cigarette smoke, a smoke I had never smelled before, then this guy next to Troy says, "Oh man, I think those guys ahead of use are smoking pot." I couldn't believe it, someone was smoking weed at an Oasis concert, but thank God it didn't last long, because they got kicked out... then...
After, oh, about 4 more songs, Liam through his tamborine at the mic and knocked it over, he then popped open a beer and walked off stage followed by the other members of the band, except Noel, who seated himself center stage and brought out his accoustic guitar and just totally melted the audience with his studdly solos, he sang a lot of original tunes, a lot of 'B' sides, and he even sang "Don't Go Away" accoustic.. it rocked, then in the middle of one of his songs, he was interrupted by the fire alarm, he stopped and the lights came on and he says, "What the hell? Was that the f***ing fire alarm? Oh f*** it, I'm going to keep playing, we'll all f***ing die." It was cool, then the band came back on, except for Liam, and they played Noel's lead singing song, "Don't Look Back in Anger." Then the younger Gallagher brother came back on they sang, oh, I don't know, about 15 more songs, including Wonderwall, Supersonic, Hey Now, Some Might Say, Live Forever, Slide Away, Roll with It, Bring it on Down, Its Getting Better Man and more... they also played D' Know What I Mean... wow , it was the best I've ever hear it played, I was TOTALLY pumped when I heard it, it was absolutelty the best song I ever heared Oasis play.... They also played Champagne Supernova, and let me tell you, Noel just stole the show... he was kicking butt throughout the whole concert by ad libbing and rocking on his solos, but on this particular song, you know at the end when he has a 2 minute solo, he played a 15-20 min solo, Liam just sat down and let him take over, IT WAS THE COOLEST... He was playing on the 24th fret and everything, he was absolutely the best......
In the middle of the concert Noel goes "Its f ing freezing up here, we should all pack our bags and move to California or something"
I really can't express the whole experience to you, simply put, it was just..... GREAT!!!!
