Location: A Caribbean isle (taping took place in Catalina, CA for the boat scenes and Malibu, CA for the beach scenes)
Incident Report: The intrepid Salem teens went to an island near Puerto Rico for a class trip last summer and stayed through fall break. When they weren't gathering leaves, the teens were treasure-hunting for Alice's ruby. Belle had a wacky dream in which she was on the beack, Mimi was a mermaid and Chloe was bald.
Hostiles: "In Catalina, I was freaking out because I could see stingrays on the bottom of the ocean-the water is so clear there," recalls Kirsten Storms (Belle). "I remember having a lot of fear. In Malibu, we saw baby seals and dolphins."
Climate: "It was a beautiful day in Malibu, but freezing cold. I think I was more distracted, acting-wise, that day than I had been in my entire life. I have shot in different countries and it has been cold, but there is nothing like being in a bikini in the water with waves that are so strong it feels like 40 degrees outside. The wardrobe people had two robes for each of us. The girls put one robe on the regular way and oneon backwards. They had pocket warmers and lots of towels and tents where you could sit to get out of of the wind. We had to stop at one point because my chest hurt to breathe in the water."
Health Risks: "Farah [Fath, Mimi] and I were on the baot to Catalina, getting a tan, when we weren't working. We had sunscreen everywhere. I think because I was in the sun so much [growing up] in Florida, I get color when I'm in the sun for a few minutes. They put sunscreen on my scalp and in the part of my braids. We had so mush sunblock under the foundation that it was like having five layers of makeup on."
Regulation Gear: "We were laughing so hard when we saw the Malibu footage [on-air]; I was so embarrassed. I wore my own bathing suit because I knew it fit, but I wish I had picked out a more stable top that kept my stuff from bouncing around. I had to run in slow motion to Jason [Cook, Shawn]; of course, the guys thought that was the greatest part of the whole day."
Civilian Interference: "The good thing about the Malibu shoot was that my boyfriend lives down the street, and he brought me Starbucks. It was my favorite part of the whole day."
