Hiking Oahu

Another hike was on the schedule for today. We hiked out on the eastern most point on Oahu to the Makapu'u Lighthouse (which is the one we drove by the day before). It was a beautiful morning and there weren't many other folks. It was great! We even spotted a spout of water coming out of the ocean over and over while slowly moving. Max and Jenn said it was a whale. I wish we could have seen the whole thing. That would have been another first for me. We made it up to the light house, but since it's an active light house, we could not go in. We did see another spout along the shore on our way back and that turned out to be a water spout that sneezed into the air when large waves rolled in.

Our next stop was a hike to see a waterfall. It was like hiking in the rainforest. Everything was wet and it smelled good. We saw some large plants, bamboo trees and a nice man doing some bird watching. We took some pictures of the waterfall and then started our trek back to the car. Just as we strated off, it began to rain. Not liking wet fur, I hid under Jenn's shirt and stayed fairly dry. Max and Jenn on the other hand.... Well lets just say a shower sounded like a good idea.

After they got cleaned up, we picked up Ida and Luda and headed to the Honolulu Zoo. What a great little place. It's almost like the animals are right there with you, until you run into a bush or a rock that is really the fence. I had a great time here and took some fun photos with the animals.

We decided that some ice cream sounded good on this hot afternoon and went in search of a local ice cream shop. We found a "Baskin Robins" and drove around looking at sights while eating it. Then is was off to dinner at a Mongolean BBQ place. Max and Jenn said it wasn't like the ones back home, but I've never been to one, so I have to take their word for that.

We followed up the evening with another swim in the ocean before calling it a wrap for the day and heading back for some much needed sleep.
