12.06: A Parade of Lights

Tonight we went downtown to the Parade of Lights. We were to meet up with Rob and Leslie from the Omega Glory and they were going to bring Star back to our burrow after she had traveled with them to Canada. We were all to meet up at the capitol building and then head out to find some quick snacks and a good viewing spot. We arrived ahead of schedule, so I took Summer on a quick tour of the capitol building before they closed.

As we waited for the parade to start, we munched on Subway sandwiches. There was a really cool security guard stationed at our vantage point and he spent a lot of time with us! This year it wasn't as cold as last year and we had a really nifty spot to watch the parade! As last year there were marching bands, many floats with lights decorating them, even a few mascots and the mayor of Denver. There were also some really big balloons (a wizard, a shark, a dinosaur, a football and a reindeer) that had to have many people hold them down and pull them along. There was also a big fire-breathing guy there. At first I thought he was a miniature dragon, but then Jenn explained to me that he was a Darwin Awards candidate. To finish off the evening and ring in the holiday season Santa Claus brought up the tail end of the parade.

After the parade was over we all headed to the Hard Rock Cafe on the 16th Street Mall to eat some real dinner and have some warm drinks. We sat and talked and looked at all the really cool stuff hanging on the walls from various rock stars.

Everyone had a great time and we called it a night pretty late in the evening. Star came back with us in our shuttle and were eager to hear all about her adventures in Canada.
