JULY, 2001 ~ continued

July 30, 2001 - I promise myself that yes, I will go workout this morning. I’ve missed enough classes for the whole year. It will seem strange after being out all last week long. Least ways, I got some things done here at the house by being here more than usual. Maybe I’ll be able to attend all the sessions during the month of August. It’s hard to believe that July is nearly gone.

I’ve decided to add a new feature to my Journal beginning with August. I just need to work out the details of how to do it. I’ve been toying around with the idea of doing a daily Quote since I’ve accumulated quite a few. If I can find an image of a cookie jar I like, I could maybe have, “Out of The Cookie Jar” and randomly draw out a quote each day.

Another idea which probably will be even better is to choose a Journal of The Day from all the online sites to explore and compare. Everyone has a different idea about journal keeping and it’s interesting to get an idea of what others do. I don’t necessarily agree with many people and their writings, but then again, they may not agree with mine. It’s good to visit and learn from others. Yet, there are some I regard as X-rated and not suited for me to use. I promise to feature only places I have checked out.

Why not do both of them? I just may do that....

Meanwhile, there is a day ahead of me with lots to take care of. Hopefully, the B&N message board will be up and working this week along with the new lessons.

That place I got stung Saturday is still bothering me some. It’s beginning to get a scab on the sore it made and itches now. Allan said that more than likely, I got some dye or fabric from my shirt that caused it to do the way it did when the yellow jacket stung me through it.

Charlie has a limp now. He is holding up his left back leg. I have to wonder - did he get stung, or has his leg been hurt? Guess it’s time to watch and see how he does today. I may end up having to take him to the vet if he keeps up the limping. OOPS! Looking a bit closer, his upper thigh is swollen. Now I have to wonder what he has been up to.

July 31, 2001 - Another month gone with the winds of time gone by. At least this July was much like some summers of the past inasmuch as there were days of rain that had a chance to soak into the soil and relieve some of the dehydrated conditions surrounding us. I actually enjoyed getting out in the rain, getting quite damp going from place to place there for several days. Umbrellas were not made for me to have to fool with. I much rather get wet than have to be bothered. Now, if I happened to have an extra arm for maneuvering around with one, it would be different. How does one go about carrying objects in one hand and arm, balance a handbag on the shoulder and traipse along successfully dealing with closed doors and such while keeping dry under an umbrella?

Trying to traverse the sidewalks of New York City in the rain is an experience not to be forgotten. Peak crowds scrambling in all directions at quitting time getting nowhere any too fast and all are under a sea of umbrellas. More umbrellas are being offered for sell by the vendors every yard or so. At first you wonder, why would they be out selling umbrellas to folks that already have them in use. Upon closer scrutiny, the answer is positively clear. All colors, sizes and shapes of umbrellas are in reality at war with each other. I found myself having to play a game of dodge umbrellas - up, down and side-to-side - while others came barging through oblivious to the surroundings - no matter what! OOPS! There goes one kerflop! It is turned wrong side out and tossed to the side to be trampled and shredded down to nothing. It may be that one side is broken when it comes in contact with a person or another umbrella among the mad rush to get through. A new one is bought on the spot to replace the broken one and the game continues. Those vendors have to rake in a bunch of moola as the umbrellas hit the pavement. So goes a rainy day in the Big Apple...

Once in Q4L this morning it dawned on me that I had left my tag to swipe to sign-in out in the car. I failed to get it back on the outside of my bag where it belongs. Ms. Jay came to the rescue and ran back out to the car to retrieve it for me. I’ll miss her while she is out for her surgery and recoup time. She has parathyroid surgery on Wednesday next week. She is hoping that she will be a candidate for the shorter version of the procedure which means she will bounce back quicker.

My next-door-neighbor for many years in Hickory called this afternoon. I’ve not heard from her in ages and it was good to talk with her. She was telling me about her experience of trying to renew her license for driving. After four attempts, she decided it wasn’t worth the effort and threw in the towel. Now she plans to sell her car. It seems impossible that she is eighty years old now. Her first trip to the license place was a no-go because she had cataracts and failed the eye test. After surgery to correct that, she went back and on the second try, she went out for the road test. She only drove a short distance and the examiner had her to pull over. She had broken the law by not putting on her seatbelt. Try number three, she didn’t stop long enough at the stop sign. Number four trip was no better, there was something else that happened. Finally, she asked the officer, “Just who’s law am I breaking, your’s or the state’s?” Some of the things he was telling her she had never heard of. She asked how long was she supposed to wait at the stop sign. A friend of her’s failed for stopping too long at a stop sign. Could it be that her age was a factor in some of the nit-picking, or was she really that bad a driver. She has had no wrecks or problems with traveling the roads, but was able to get to the beauty shop and grocery store.

There was a bit of bad news brought up in our conversation. My cousin that had the surgery for cancer and ended up in the hospital for over two months and has had other problems ever since, had a fall. She took a tumble yesterday and broke her hip. Now she is in the hospital waiting for surgery to insert a pin in her hip. She was at church this past Sunday with her brother who is visiting from Florida.

While visiting with Mother this afternoon, Tbird called to let me know the family is back from the Outerbanks. They didn’t get the new birds because the Birdman didn’t have any young birds ready for sale. Some predator got into the hatching room and destroyed all his young birds back in the Spring. It will be a while before the new ones will be ready to leave.

She brought over the boys later in the evening to spend the night since she has to be at school in the morning. Giggles is back in daycare regularly, so Dad will deliver her to Morganton in the morning. The boys start school next week. DynoKid was so tired he immediately laid down and went to sleep. It wasn’t too long until I missed NascarKid and went in search of him. I found him in the other bed sound asleep, too. Their trip must have worn them out. It is 309 miles from here to there and they drove it all today. Myrtle Beach is much closer for our enjoyment, but there is much history to be learned along the coast of North Carolina.

The boys are asleep and at 2 a.m., I’m still wide awake. The light has been off and on since about ten, but sleep has not been a priority for my mind’s eye!

Watch for new addition here.
