Powder Springs

Powder Springs is located in the town of Revelstoke,BC. Its about a four hour drive from Calgary and about eight hours from Vancouver. If, however, there is a Winter storm, the areas roads will be closed until snow and avalanche removal can be accomplished. This happens a lot during the Winter months due to Revelstoke proximity to the Rodgers Pass area. Rodgers Pass traditionally receives more snow than is thought possible a whopping 60 to 80 feet, wow! Its unfair, all the good powder is falling out in the middle of nowhere! Well, upon arriving at the ski resort of Powder Springs, I was a little disappointed at the size of the hill and the fact that it was covered with a thick fog. Although the mountain was covered with a thick blanket of powder, Skiing was difficult because I couldn't see a thing and I found myself fighting off vertigo! After a while the fog lifted some and I was able to ski its thick blanket of powder, it wasn't tracked out too badly. Curiously, as the lift dumps you at the top of the mountain, you cant help but notice nice broad trails coming out of the forest from up above. Well, I looked around for another lift but there isn't one and although Powder Springs has lots of great skiing from the top of the mountain there is no lift system in place to get skiers there! Bummer, I thought to myself, this place is a snow cherry waiting for a fat cat developer to put up a gondola to the summit and a new log lodge at its base, any takers Charlie? I read somewhere that the owners wanted to do just that but the townies threw a fit, so no gondola. Still, the sheer amount and quality of snow at Powder Springs, has earned a place in my Powder Five Line up of great powder ski mountains. This is true, not only for Powder Springs, but because Revelstoke - Rodgers Pass is home to more snow cat and helo adventure outfits than any other place I can think of, a true mecca. Cat Powder Skiing is located right on the hill and also in town at the Powder Springs Inn and will get you and your friends to the summit all day. This is heaven, its absolutely the only way to ski, don't do any trip until you do this one. Also the town of Revelstoke is a classic in of itself. Revelstoke is like an antique town and it looks beautiful in snow. The rustic feeling caps off an awesome place to visit and I cant wait to go back .
