Strangefolk
Weightless in Water
(Mammoth Records)
Please don't be fooled: Strangefolk may appear to have ridden the coattails
of their Burlington counterpart, Phish, to get a contract with Mammoth
Records, but that swift judgement would be selling the band short. Yes, they
do carry the same appeal as the other jam band, but they also have talent
worthy of this all-too-frequent comparison. Weightless in Water's blues
riffs, acoustics and Hammond Organ are all integrated respectfully, even if
the music isn't your slice of pie.
Conclusion: If you're down with teh whole neo-hippie movement, then this album
is a fit for you. If not, don't touch it with a 10-foot pole. Anyway, with
talent and right place/ right time luck, like it or not, Strangefolk will hit
the big time.
