An Introduction: Sifu Mark
Strange has been practising martial arts since 1983
and has been qualified to teach various styles of Chinese
martial arts since 1989. In 1991, Mark opened his own,
full time training centre - The Leyland Martial Arts
Academy - where he provides class and personal tuition
in all aspects of Chinese martial arts and fitness
which include Kung Fu (various
styles), Tai Chi, Chinese Boxing, Self-Defence and Chinese Weaponry.
Over the years, Mark has achieved many accolades and titles in sport
martial arts, which include: "National Chinese Forms
Champion(1992)"; "British Full Contact
Chinese Kickboxing Champion(1994)" ;and "Most Outstanding
Competitor in the 1996 Chin Wu Kung Fu World Championships
in China". Mark has trained in China and Hong Kong
in 1994 with his own teacher, Sifu Derek Frearson.
While there, he was a guest of the
Shaolin monks and also studied with world renowned masters of Wing
Chun and Tai Chi. He has attended training seminars
with Martial arts film stars:- Cynthia Rothrock and
Mark Houghton. He has also trained with many notable
martial artists and continues to receive instruction
to improve standards and obtain mastery of
his art. Sifu Mark Strange has appeared on television (in this country & abroad)
and radio and in numerous martial arts magazine
articles. He features on the cover of and provides
technical advice for the book:- "The Essential Guide
to Learning Martial Arts"; written by his sister,
Carol Anne Strange (Janus Publishing Co. Ltd, London). He currently
provides visual demonstrations of martial arts skills and leads a team of
martial artists who perform
flamboyant stunts and novelty acts at various events.
