Mountain Pastimes

On this Page are Photographs and links to various sites that may be of interest to anyone who has an interest in Mountains, mountaineering and skiing. Be Careful but Enjoy! I have also included a link to the British Mountaineering Council - BMC - further down the page, it is an essential link for British mountaineers - membership is cheap, and you get free insurance with the membership (recommended).

I have only been skiing once so far - at Chatel and Les Gettes in the French Alps - but I aim to go skiing every winter in the near future. That's how cool it is. A major life experience! The Alps are awesome, and I eventually aim to ski the Swiss and Italian Alps. Cross country skiing might help there I expect. I also aim to ski in America and Canada, and from there who knows. I love the snow, but I respect it also. I also like the winter mountaineering sport, crampons essential, there's nothing like a brisk stroll along a knife-edge ridge in the snow on a sunny day

I have been mountaineering for about 7 years or so now. I have attempted climbing Mont Blanc twice so far, and have come to the conclusion that it will need an overnight stay on the mountain to complete it - believe me the attempt is not for the faint of heart or the short of breath, the AIR is THIN up there (the highest mountain in Europe 4.8K HIGH). If you ever have the chance to stay in the Chamonix Valley don't pass it up - it's a beautiful and exciting place. I have also practised mountaineering in the Lake District, England, Wales, and Scotland, and though the mountains aren't as high, the views can still be quite breathtaking.
