Marek W. from Vancouver BC. writes: Two days ago my brother came back from a
vacation in Europe. One of the stops included Austria where he was touring an
old palace and snapped a series of photographs of the interior. Today, we had
picked up the pictures after they were developed and this is what we found.
Notice a strange "figure" to the right of the door in the middle of
the picture. He SWORE to me that when they were taking pictures of the interior
"there was absolutely NO ONE in the room, except for a couple of people
behind us and the tour guide". I don't want to rush and say that this is a
"ghost" photograph, however it seems weird and I don't know what to
make of it. (11/14/99)
Ghost photo, scanned by Art Bell, submitted by Frank Lavoie taken by David
Ladd, who does state this is a developing process artifact, but interesting none
the less. David takes photos of his historic resotration work of farmhouses in
Rockingham County in New Hampshire. "A Connection?" Here is an uncompressed
version (240K) Posted 11/09/99.
Chris Anderson writes: Here is a picture of a ghost (spirit) that we made a
color copy of in Wilsonville, Oregon in about 1996. The lady who brought this to
us said that the little girl in the picture's grandfather passed away
approximately 3 months earlier. The day this picture was taken was this girl's
mother's wedding day. The ghost (spirit) seems to be coming out of a picture on
the wall. That was a photo of her grandpa.

writes: Art, I am a fire fighter and a paramedic, I was at the fire this picture
was taken at. In the middle of the picture is a window and behind that window
was a bed. This bed is where the man was found. Look at the black figure in the
middle, it is the ghost of the dead man. Also if you look you can see other
ghosts or demons in this picture. I have looked at this with lots of other
people. This picture hangs in the fire station at a local fire station in Texas.

Deatherage writes: This is a scanned image of a picture that was given to me in
the early 1980's by my great aunt. I don't have any information about it except
what is written on the back. I'm assuming that it was maybe submitted to a
magazine, based on the "can you use this?" that appears at the lower
right hand side of the back of the picture. Also, I would guess that the reason
that all of the handwriting on the back of the picture appears the same is that
there were no copy machines in those days. I would guess the photographer it
notarized, but had no way to duplicate that, so he just wrote what appeared on
the original. At the time she gave me the picture, she also gave me a couple of
old cameras she had acquired over the years. One of those cameras has a small
door on the back that flips open, and a small brass pen that one could write on
the negative, which is where I think the "copyright" message came
from. (11/26/98)
Brian Underwood writes: "I think I figured out how those people made the
ghost photos that are on the website. They are made when the flash reflects off
of cigarette smoke in front of the camera. I've attached a couple of Polaroid
photos that I took last night. You can clearly see that my pictures look just
exactly like the ghost pictures." (11/17/98)
And then you get something from Susan, a Realtor, who writes: "I am
enclosing a photo that I took of a property here some time ago. Is it a ghost? I
scanned it and it has not been modified in any way except to crop the excess
background. No one was smoking in the house when the photo was taken. I have one
similar photo with a similar ghostly image taken in another room, but several
other photos came out fine with no ghostly image. We did not notice anything
unusual in the house when taking the pictures. The home sold before this roll
was developed so we didn't see this photo until sometime later." (11/17/98)
This is "The Brown Lady" - one of the most famous of the "genuine" spook photos. This photograph was taken in 1936 by a pair of professional photographers who were there to shoot a photo supplement for "Country Life" magazine. One claimed to have seen the ghost on the stairs - the other, seeing nothing, shot the photograph. This is the image that appeared after developing. The photograph seemed to confirm the 60 years of rumors concerning the ghost of Dorothy Walpole, who appeared in brown satin.. with her eyes gouged out. Generally considered the most undeniable of ghost photgraphs, some photo analysts claim that the image was created in the photo lab, using compositing techniques.
And you were worried about what was in the water down at the shore this year.. This photograph was taken by the captain of the S.S.Watertown in 1924. A boiler accident claimed the life of two crewmen, James Courtenay and Michael Meehan, and they were given the traditional burial at sea. The following day the crew claimed to see two ghostly faces following them in the sea. The captain eventually got a camera and took six photographs; when developed, five seemed to show nothing, and one.. showed this. It has been suggested that the crew of the Watertown succumbed to mass hysteria, and that the ocean swirls can suggest patterns when there really are none. What do you think...?
This photograph was taken in the sixties by a Reverend who supposedly felt a presence on the staircase. The photograph was sent to Kodak Laboratories at the time, who could find no irregularities.
Modern ghost photographs are far less dramatic in appearance, but far less likely to be deliberate forgeries. What does the modern ghost look like? What are the current theories on the existence, substance, and authenticity of ghostly phenomenon? PhillyBurbs goes to the source to find out. Check out our Interview with a Ghost Hunter.
The Lord at the Vatican. Art got this photo in the mail with the note,
"Polaroid photo taken April 18, 1987, at the Vatican pavilion, Flushing
meadows, NY". ....when photo was taken, he was not seen.
Explanation will be mentioned soon!.
Submitted by Carolyn Gardner, this photo came from her neighbor (girl on the left), taken in 1975 at the Mt. Palomar Observatory in So. Ca.
The man in a tree, submitted by Adam
Campbell, photo taken in a cemetery, Wilmington, NC, 1992. Here is a second
shot taken, just to show you it wasn't a photographic anomoly.
One of a series of 5 pictures taken by Dan Papineau of a residential fire place, which when developed, shows what Dan says is a robed woman holding a baby in front of a burning cross.

Ken writes: In 1872, a 13 yr old Irish girl , Jane Mullaney, immigrated to New
York City from Mohill, County Leitrim, Ireland, with her recently widowed
mother, Mary. As was common at the time, they settled in a predominantly Irish
section of Manhattan known as "Hell's Kitchen". It was a working
class neighborhood, and as such, the men would dress accordingly as they left
for work in the morning.
When she would return home from school in the afternoon, my grandmother would often run into the "rich man" who lived down the hall from their apartment, as he was taking his small white dog for a walk.
Unlike most of the men of the area, he was always dressed in a tuxedo and was home when others were at their jobs. He was of a refined manner, and always tipped his hat and smiled as he passed her in the hall.
One day, when her mother was speaking with some of the other tenants, she asked about the nice man with the little dog. Their faces blanched, and the shocked tenants asked her to describe the man in greater detail. The man, as it turns out, was a waiter who worked the night shift in an exclusive restaurant (hence the tuxedo). He would walk his dog every afternoon before going to work and was a quiet and cordial neighbor.
One night, a year earlier, he had quietly committed suicide in his bedroom. I think that , maybe, many decades later, he might have stopped by to pay a visit to the pretty little Irish girl who had lived down the hall.
(some people claim to see a second face, which appears to be a woman. If
you look closely at the image of the man, you can notice a noose around his
neck. Also, in the left of the photo is what appears to be the head of a small
dog)

Andrew writes: This was taken by a friend of mine! as you can see it looks
like a face in the jesus picture!!
Rambo made this one: I took this photograph about 15 years ago. I was watching
TV one night when the RF signal suddenly disappeared and the screen burst into
snow and white noise poured forth from the speaker. What happened next is in
the photo. I didn't believe my own eyes so I ran and got my camera. This never
happened before or since. I no longer own this TV set.
Keith writes: Notice the halo effect, it seems to cast an etherial presence to
the bush. This is a bush that was planted when this house was built and is
over 30 years old. What could it be?

Tim
Yancey tells us of someone that was in london, snapping a picture of his
little girl. When he developed the picture, and image of a lady appeared in
the background, someone he hadn't noticed at the time he took the picture. The
strange thing about the lady, dressed in black, was that she didn't have any
legs at all! The same photo is then zoomed in with the scanner (right).

A photo sent to us by Tara and Kathy Thibault of a car accident scene. As bad
as this looks, the driver was not hurt. Could it be a "Guardian
Angel" sent to save the driver?? This photo was going to be discarded by
the press photographer, but Tara thought enough to save it and send it in.

himself, and showed the

What kind of Spirit Calling is going on here? See Balder Olrik's The

Bill writes: I was walking in a cemetery, late at night, when I sensed a
spirit telepathically beckoning me to follow it. I did so, and was led through
the cemetery to a freshly-dug grave. I took a picture and turned to leave,
when the spirit told me it wasn't ready when I took the picture. So, I
recomposed the shot and waited for the spirit to cue me.
Shortly, I began to see something through the viewfinder, but it didn't register visually. It seemed to register in some other region of the mind. I took that as the cue and snapped the shutter. I waited for the flash to recycle and took a third picture, then left the grave to finish off the remainder of the roll of film.
Later, when I developed the film, I found the three frames taken by the
grave and there in the middle frame, where I waited for the spirit to signal
me, is a magnificent cloud of spirit energy, hovering over the grave. I call
the photo "Sweet Chariot" because, as a Christian, it reminds me of
how God sent Jesus into the world to, as it were, "carry us home."
Steve writes: This photo belongs to a friend of mine who doesn't have a
computer. I scanned it so you can look at it. It is of the USS Arizona, look
into the square opening near the lower right corner of the photo. You will see
a ghostly face staring out at you. Very creepy!
